This paper describes a multimedia multimodal information access sub-system (MIAS) for digital audio-visual documents, typically presented in streaming media format. The system is designed to provide both professional and general users with entry points into video documents that are relevant to their information needs. In this work, we focus on the information needs of multimedia specialists at a Dutch cultural heritage institution with a large multimedia archive. A quantitative and qualitative assessment is made of the efficiency of search operations using our multimodal system and it is demonstrated that MIAS significantly facilitates information retrieval operations when searching within a video document.
We describe an unusual ASR application: recognition of command words from severely dysarthric speakers, who have poor control of their articulators. The goal is to allow these clients to control assistive technology by voice. While this is a small vocabulary, speaker-dependent, isolated-word application, the speech material is more variable than normal, and only a small amount of data is available for training. After training a CDHMM recogniser, it is necessary to predict its likely performance without using an independent test set,so that confusable words can be replaced by alternatives. We present a battery of measures of consistency and confusability, based on forced-alignment, which can be used to predict recogniser performance. We show how these measures perform, and how they are presented to the clinicians who are the users of the system.
treatment. Antiarrhythmic treatment was changed to procainamide. The electrocardiogram was unchanged, creatine kinase activity remained normal, and serum potassium concentration was 4-1 mmolIl. Besides premature ventricular beats, decreasing in frequency, the patient's further course was uneventful and he was discharged five days later. Serum mianserin concentrations measured by high performance liquid chromatography had a peak of 8-3 tmol/l (2 2 mg/i). The terminal half life (43 5 hours) was comparable with published values.6 The peak concentration of the main metabolite, desmethylmianserin, was 0-19 imol/l (0-76 mg/l). Only traces of other antidepressants, known to have been prescribed to the patient in the past, and of their metabolites were found (for example, desipramine 0-10 mg/i and mesoridazine 0 13 mg/i).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
