BACKGROUND Aesthetic dentistry is making its own new position in current scenario. The aesthetic desire of patient has become need of an hour and it is essential for dental practitioner to understand the aesthetics of implants. For planning of implants in anterior region, overall general health of patient should be considered including systemic health, good oral hygiene practice and good compliance of patients. The peri-implant aesthetics is determined by two components - soft tissue and hard tissue, which includes bone and gingiva. Modifications refining the tissues around implant can enhance the aesthetics. Treatment protocol should include pre-planning of all functional and aesthetic considerations which should be discussed to patients as well prior to preceding treatment of implant. Judicious understanding of these factors can not only provide physical integrity of tissue but also prevent future aesthetics and implant failure. Implants in anterior region become challenging for clinicians to emulate what nature has provided. The harmonious relationship between functional stability and peri-implant soft tissue becomes an essential requisite for successful endosseous implant so as to attain proper facial aesthetics. Visualization of aesthetics related to implants is a complex phenomenon which requires utilization of multidisciplinary approach including prosthetic and periodontal consideration as the implant position as well implant abutment junction if placed at improper position can cause bone resorption. Compiling this, comprehensive knowledge regarding soft and hard tissue can help dentists to integrate a balance between the smile and face of an individual. Introduction: Stem cells are definite units competent of both self-renewal and differentiation into numerous cells. Embryonic and postnatal tissues are the major sources of stem cells. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge and level of information about stem cells research and therapeutic potential among Medical and Dental postgraduate students of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, Vadodara. Materials and Methods: The Medical and Dental postgraduate students of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, Vadodara, were selected. The questionnaire form was taken to them by the principal investigator personally and explained about the study and asked to fill the questionnaire after obtaining consent. The collected questionnaire was excluded if more than 30% of questions were not filled. Results: A total of 435 medical and dental postgraduate students of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, Vadodara, were included in the study. 109 dental postgraduates (26.58%), and 301 were medical postgraduates. All participants had a basic knowledge of stem cells (100%), but only a few had specific knowledge (3.90%). Only a few agreed to human embryo research and considered it ethical (0.73%). All agreed to conserve their child's umbilical cord for the child's therapeutic purposes. Conclusion: We can conclude that the knowledge and level of information about stem cells exhibited by most of the participants were minimal. However, all participants expressed a genuine desire to enhance their knowledge regarding stem cells. There is a need for Continuing Medical Education/ Continuing Dental Education (CME/CDE) workshops as well as conferences on this subject to upgrade the knowledge of participants and the community as a whole.
Background: The dental caries and gingivitis are considered as one of the most prevalent diseases in the general population. If dental caries and gingivitis are assessed at an early age, it might prevent the risk of endodontic and periodontal diseases in the future. This intervention is effective, especially among teenagers. The aim of the study was to perceive the prevalence of dental caries and gingivitis in children aged 12 to 14 years residing in a rural area of Vadodara city. Methods: It is a cross-sectional observational study with a total sample size of 339 in a secondary school of Vadodara district. DMFT index and CPITN index were recorded with No. 23 explorer and CPITN-E probes respectively, and a mouth mirror (Instruments were autoclaved prior to use). One-way Anova test and student t-test were used for analysis. Results: The prevalence of dental caries amongst participants was found to be 97.7% and that of gingivitis was found to be 75% (approximately). Conclusion: Children belonging to the Vadodara district have a high risk of getting an endodontic and periodontal infection in the future, indicating the need for oral health education and promotion.
