part of the path. 4 We devoted a great deal of attention to the non-technical skills, performing several simulations of immediate conversion from robotic to open prostatectomy. 5 In those situations, there are no standardized intraoperative protocols, and team-based skills are not well defined. Through repeated simulations and meticulous debriefings, we improved role delineation and defined leadership, with the result of a surgical room reorganization enabling faster and more appropriate emergency procedures. Moreover, residents were sensitized to the value of teamwork, especially in critical and unforeseen situations.Indeed, the principle ''practice makes perfect'' is particularly recommended for robotic surgery where training and simulation are essential for improving surgical skills.Nevertheless, we would like to stress that the use of these training programs focused on technical skills, such as the one used by Satava et al, is extremely useful for improving the surgeon's manual skills. However, group training is essential for refining the surgeon's mind.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
