Die mikpunt met hierdie ondersoekende, kwalitatiewe navorsing was om vas te stel of daar in die Suid-Afrikaanse werkplek stigmatisering teenoor MIV positiewe lede van die werksmag bestaan of nie. Deur gebruik te maak van 'n selfopgestelde onderhoud, is telefoniese onderhoude gevoer met 'n steekproef van 20 MIV positiewe werknemers. Data ontleding deur middel van beskrywende statistiek en inhoudsontleding het gelei tot bewyse dat stigmatisering teenoor MIV positiewe werknemers in Suid-Afrika bestaan. Die bevindinge van hierdie navorsing dui daarop dat sulke stigmatisering spanning, angstigheid, depressie, vrees en voornemens tot arbeidsomset by MIV positiewe werknemers kan verhoog, terwyl dit motivering, hoop, werkstevredenheid en selfwaarde kan verlaag.
