The primary objective of this study is to examine the connotation of pet expressions when used to describe people in Jordanian Spoken Arabic (JSA), that is, the wide array of negative and positive associations that pet expressions bring with them. When defining animals,al-mu‘jamal-wasi:tt and al-mu‘jamal-jami‘ define most of the animal expressions along with their connotations. The present study investigates the connotations of pets in Jordanian Spoken Arabic. To this end, the researchers distributed an open ended questionnaire to the subjects that could provide rich qualitative data. This, in turn, will give the researchers an opportunity to gain insight in the subjects’ opinions on the connotation of pets in JSA. The questionnaire consisted of (11) Jordanian spoken Arabic sentences. Each sentence included a pet expression which is used in JSA. After collecting the questionnaire the researchers tested the connotations of pet expressions in JSA against the connotation of pet expression in al-mu‘jamal-wasi:tt and al-mu‘jam al-jami‘ .The findings of the study suggest that in some cases the connotation changed from positive in the two lexicons to negative in JSA or vice versa. In others, the connotation remained the same but changed from a connotation to another.
This quasi-experimental study assesses the usefulness of blogs as teaching and learning tools for the EFL at Jordanian schools in Amman. The study focuses on the increased significance of the English language for the international competence of Jordan and its workforce. The study also assesses the benefits that blogs can provide for eighth-grade students. To answer the question of what effect do blogs have on improving reading and writing skills, the researchers used a sample of students from two schools in Amman, and undertook a quasi-experimental study by applying a pretest-posttest design. The researchers selected a sample of 72 eighth-grade EFL students in Amman and divided them into control and experimental groups. The regular EFL curriculum was administered in both groups, but supported with a blog component for the experimental group. The results indicated a significant improvement in the students’ reading comprehension skills and writing competence when using blogs. The study recommends that teachers promote active participation of the students on blogs.

This paper aims at investigating the spelling mistakes made by students of English language in The World Islamic Sciences and Education University (WISE) in Jordan. The researcher adopted Cook‘s classification of errors in this study. Students mistakes were categorized into four classifications: substitution, omission, insertion, and transposition. Fifty students were participated in the study by enrolling in the "Error Analysis" course in two semesters of the academic year 2016/2017. The data for the study were derived from three exams: the first, the second, and the final exams, given to the students during the two semesters. Then the data were analyzed after completing the course in the second semester of 2016-2017. The results of the study revealed that (38%) of the errors referred to omission and (28%) to insertion. However, the study showed that (22%) of errors referred to substitution, while only (15%) of them referred to transposition. This study showed that using vowels and pronunciation incorrectly is one of the major causes of the learners' errors. Further, the interference of the first language plays a significant role in this regard. The study concludes that more efforts and concern should be given to spelling errors made by students since the learning of spelling is an integral part of language learning. The researcher suggested some recommendations and pedagogical implications to be studied in the future.
Objectives: The main focus of this study is to translate the polysemous word "Qadha" / قضى in the Holy Qur'an. Additionally, it aims to explore and analyze the various meanings of the word "Qadha" /قضى as translated by different interpretations of the Holy Qur'an. Methods: In order to achieve the objective of this study, three well-known translations of the Holy Qur'an were utilized to examine the polysemous meanings conveyed in the selected verses. Furthermore, ten different polysemous meanings were identified and analyzed using three respected Qur'an-related exegeses. Results: The study indicates that the word "Qadha" /قضى possesses several distinct polysemous meanings in the discussed verses. The findings of the study reveal that the context and collocation in which the word is used play a significant role in translating Qur'anic polysemy. Conclusions: The study also demonstrates that the translation of the word "Qadha" /قضى in some verses is inaccurate, which can be attributed to the literal translation strategy employed by translators. Another possible reason for literal translation could be the style and form of the verse. Finally, the study recommends further research to be conducted on Qur'anic polysemy in order to examine the accuracy of translating the meanings of the Holy Qur'an.
