Tri(9-anthryl)borane was successfully
applied as an organophotocatalyst
for the visible-light-induced trifluoromethylation of unactivated
alkenes with CF3I. The mild reaction conditions tolerated
a variety of functional groups, and the reaction could be extended
to perfluoroalkylations with C3F7I and C4F9I. Mechanistic studies revealed that the photoredox
catalysis involves an oxidative quenching pathway.
(Hetero)aryloxytetrafluoroethylation of heteroaromatics and alkenes has been achieved by visible-light photocatalysis utilizing readily synthesized oxyfluoroalkyl reagents. The mild reaction conditions and the high diversity on both substrates and oxyfluoroalkyl reagents make this a useful method for late-stage modifications in the development of various functional molecules.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
