Media education for elderly. Good practices on of the activities in University of the Th ird Age at Lublin Th e main purpose of the text is to emphasize the need to educate older people. Th e generation of current elderly grew up in the analogue society. Th ere is a need to equal opportunities in an active presence in the digital society. Media competences acquired through education will meet the needs of self-fulfi llment, entertainment or recognition. In the following article, students of the third-century university presented the reasons for enrolling in computer classes and a seminar on media sciences. Th ey also indicated which computer tools they use and how these skills help them to function in a technological society. Th e article presents author's research among a group of students of the University of the Th ird Age in Lublin.
We live in an ageing society that is technologically characterized at the same time In order to function well in it, one must have appropriate competences. Those can be acquired through media education. This is vital for older people who are exposed to digital marginalization. The exclusion occurs when some individuals or groups are not free to participate fully in the network society. The aim of this article is not only to prove that media education in practice affects the reduction of the digital divide but also that seniors can use media spaces to the same extent as younger generations. It is also intended to sensitize the society to the presence of seniors in the virtual space.
<p align="justify"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span lang="en-GB">The demographic changes taking place in the most developed countries in Europe show a dynamic process of aging societies. Seniors (i.e. according to WHO, people over 65 years of age) are sometimes affected due to the limiting conditions of constantly progressing social changes. One of the most significant transformations is the presence of media in the everyday life of individuals. Development of technology and media communication lead to the spread of the mediatization of social reality. Many media recipients build their idea of the world based on what they learn from the mass media. It then influences their understanding of themselves and their role in the world. The purpose of this article is to analyse mediatization as a social process and to explain how it affects older people's experience of the media.</span></span></span></p>

Uniwersytety Trzeciego Wieku oraz organizacje pozarządowe mają w swojej ofercie przedmioty, które wspomagają słuchaczy w odnalezieniu się we współczesnym, starzejącym się społeczeństwie. Szansą na nową formę edukacyjną, która może przeciwdziałać wykluczeniu seniorów, jest e-learning.
