Objectives: to investigate the incidence and etiology of face trauma with diagnosis of facial fracture treated at the Buccomaxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology Service of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Hospital Complex in Porto Alegre. Methods: we conducted a cross-sectional, retrospective epidemiological study of 134 trauma victims with 153 facial fractures. Results: the male gender was the most affected (86.6%) and the incidence was higher in the age group from 21 to 30 years. The main etiology was assault (38.8%), followed by motor vehicle accidents (14.2%), motorcycle accidents (13.4%), falls (9%), road accidents (6.7%), sports accidents (5.2%), work accidents (5.2%), firearm injuries (4.5%) and cycling accidents (3%). The most frequent fractures were those of the zygomatic complex (44.5%), followed by fractures of the mandible (42.5%), maxillary bone (5.2%), nasal bones (4.5%) and zygomatic arch (3.3%). Conclusion: the fractures of the zygomatic complex and the mandible were the ones with the highest incidence in the facial traumas, having physical assaults as their main cause.
Este trabalho relata manifestações bucais que ocorrem em pacientes infectados pelo vírus da imunodeficiência humana (HIV), assim como descreve sua etiopatogenia. Apresenta como pesquisa de campo quantitativa o estudo da prevalência das manifestações bucais da AIDS, em 42 pacientes portadores do HIV e com tuberculose, internados no Hospital Sanatório Partenon. Relacionou-se a lesões encontradas clinicamente com o estado de imunodepressão mapeado através de contagem celular de linfócitos CD4+ e relação celular CD4+/CD8+. Verificou-se que a lesão mais prevalente é a Candidíase nas suas diversas formas de manifestação clínica, independente de contagem linfocitária, com números variando de depressões imunológicas severas à brandas, evidenciando seu caráter oportunista. Com relação a Leucoplasia Pilosa, este estudo mostra a sua especificidade com relação ao estado avançado de imunodepressão do paciente infectado pelo HIV; a Doença Periodontal apresenta-se como uma manifestação clínica de prevalência moderada, estando relacionada sua etiologia ao controle de placa do paciente, mostrando- se um padrão mais agressivo em áreas localizadas.
Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor with local, invasive growth and late recurrence. The aim of this paper is report a case with recurrence after 32 years. The patient was 52 year-old, female and presented to the Santa Casa Hospital Complex with a complain of oral swelling of 5 years duration, in the right mandibular body region. The area produced sleep apnea, mastigatory and speech problems. Microscopic exam reveled ameloblastoma with cystic degeneration and dystrophic calcification.
