Prices of goods and services do not adjust immediately in response to changing demand and supply conditions. This paper characterizes the average frequency and size of price changes in the euro area and its member countries, investigates the determinants of the probability of price changes, and compares the evidence for the euro area with available U.S. results. The facts documented in this paper are based on evidence from individual price data recorded at the store level in all euro area countries except Ireland and Greece: that is in datasets covering Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain, which together account for around 97 percent of euro area GDP. The data used are the monthly price records underlying the computation of national Consumer Price Indices and Harmonized Consumer Price Indices. These data cover a large number of products selected on the basis of extensive Household Budget Surveys.

The Eurosystem Inflation Persistence NetworkThis paper reflects research conducted within the Inflation Persistence Network (IPN), a team of Eurosystem economists undertaking joint research on inflation persistence in the euro area and in its member countries. The research of the IPN combines theoretical and empirical analyses using three data sources: individual consumer and producer prices; surveys on firms' price-setting practices; aggregated sectoral, national and area-wide price indices. Smartphones in general and Android in particular are increasingly shifting into the focus of cyber criminals. For understanding the threat to security and privacy, it is important for security researchers to analyze malicious software written for these systems. The exploding number of Android malware calls for automation in the analysis. In this paper, we present Mobile-Sandbox, a system designed to automatically analyze Android applications in novel ways: First, it combines static and dynamic analysis, i.e., results of static analysis are used to guide dynamic analysis and extend coverage of executed code. Additionally, it uses specific techniques to log calls to native (i.e., "non-Java") APIs, and last but not least it combines these results with machinelearning techniques to cluster the analyzed samples into benign and malicious ones. We evaluated the system on more than 69,000 applications from Asian third-party mobile markets and found that about 21 % of them actually use native calls in their code.
Plasmonic nano antennas are highly attractive at optical frequencies due to their strong resonances -even when their size is smaller than the wavelength -and because of their potential of extreme field enhancement. Such antennas may be applied for sensing of biological nano particles as well as for single molecule detection. Because of considerable material losses and strong dispersion of metals at optical frequencies, the numerical analysis of plasmonic antennas is very demanding. An additional difficulty is caused when very narrow gaps between nano particles are utilized for increasing the field enhancement. In this paper we discuss the main difficulties of time domain solvers, namely FDTD and FVTD and we compare various frequency domain solvers, namely the commercial FEM packages JCMsuite, Comsol, HFSS, and Microwave Studio with the semi-analytic MMP code that may be used as a reference due to its fast convergence and high accuracy.
