The structure of the crease region of the developing wheat grain was studied with reference to the nature and role of its tissues. The vascular bundle, which extends from base to apex at the bottom of the furrow (crease), and the chalaza and nucellar projection, which lie between the bundle and the endosperm, were also studied. It was established that nutrient substances move through these 3 tissues into the endosperm of the developing kernel. The time of such movement was studied. Findings of this study were correlated with those of other investigators.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
