It has been found that a small percentage of chromium in recrystallized titanium carbide improves the resistance of this material to oxidation at elevated temperatures. The amount of oxidation was determined by the increase in weight of specimens of different chromium content after heating in air at 650 ~ , 850 ~ , 1200 ~ , and 1400~ The data obtained from these tests show that the maximum oxidation resistance, at each temperature, is obtained with an addition of 5 per cent chromium.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
