Several new organogold(III) derivatives of the type [AuX(2)(damp)] (damp = o-C(6)H(4)CH(2)NMe(2)) have been prepared [X = CN, SCN, dtc, or X(2) = tm; dtc = R(2)NCS(2) (R = Me (dmtc) or Et (detc)); tm = SCH(CO(2))CH(2)CO(2)Na] together with [AuCl(tpca)(damp)]Cl (tpca = o-Ph(2)PC(6)H(4)CO(2)H), [Au(dtc)(damp)]Y (Y = Cl, BPh(4)) and K[Au(CN)(3)(damp)]. The (13)C NMR spectra of these and previous derivatives have been fully assigned. In [Au(dtc)(2)(damp)] and K[Au(CN)(3)(damp)], the damp ligand is coordinated only through carbon, as shown by X-ray crystallography and/or NMR. [Au(detc)(2)(damp)] has space group C2/c, with a = 29.884(4) Å, b = 13.446(2) Å, c = 12.401(2) Å, beta = 99.45(3)(o), V = 4915 Å(3), Z = 8, and R = 0.057 for 1918 reflections. The damp and one detc ligand are monodentate, the other detc is bidentate; in solution, the complex shows dynamic behavior, with the detc ligands appearing equivalent. The crystal structure of [Au(dmtc)(damp)]BPh(4) [Pna2(1), a = 26.149(5) Å, b = 11.250(2) Å, c = 11.921(2) Å, V = 3507 Å(3), Z = 4, R = 0.073, 1772 reflections] shows both ligands to be bidentate in the cation, but the two Au-S distances are nonequivalent. The crystal structure of [Au(tm)(damp)] has also been determined [P2(1)/n, a = 18.267(7) Å, b = 9.618(3) Å, c = 18.938(4) Å, beta = 113.45(3)(o), V = 3053 Å(3), Z = 8, R = 0.079, 1389 reflections]. The tm is bound through sulfur and the carboxyl group which allows five-membered ring formation. In all three structures, the trans-influence of the sigma-bonded aryl group is apparent. [AuCl(2)(damp)] has been tested in vitroagainst a range of microbial strains and several human tumor lines, where it displays differential cytotoxicity similar to that of cisplatin. Against the ZR-75-1 human tumor xenograft, both [AuCl(2)(damp)] and cisplatin showed limited activity.
Four light-yellow-pigmented, Gram-negative, short-rod-shaped, non-motile isolates were obtained from enrichment culture during degradation of the thallus of the brown alga Fucus evanescens. The isolates studied were chemo-organotrophic, alkalitolerant and mesophilic. Polar lipids were analysed and phosphatidylethanolamine was the only phospholipid identified. The predominant cellular fatty acids were 15 : 0, i15 : 0, ai15 : 0, i15 : 1 and 15 : 1(n-6). The DNA G+C contents of the four strains were 34?0-34?4 mol%. The level of DNA relatedness of the four isolates was conspecific (88-98 %), indicating that they belong to the same species. The 16S rDNA sequence of strain KMM 3553 T was determined. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that KMM 3553 T formed a distinct phyletic line in the phylum Bacteroidetes, class Flavobacteria in the family Flavobacteriaceae and that, phylogenetically, this strain could be placed almost equidistant from the genera Gelidibacter and Psychroserpens (16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 94 %). On the basis of significant differences in phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, it is suggested that the isolates represent a novel species in a new genus; the name Formosa algae gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is KMM 3553 T
Two methods for reconstructing intragranular strain fields are developed for scanning three‐dimensional X‐ray diffraction (3DXRD). The methods are compared with a third approach where voxels are reconstructed independently of their neighbours [Hayashi, Setoyama & Seno (2017). Mater. Sci. Forum, 905, 157–164]. The 3D strain field of a tin grain, located within a sample of approximately 70 grains, is analysed and compared across reconstruction methods. Implicit assumptions of sub‐problem independence, made in the independent voxel reconstruction method, are demonstrated to introduce bias and reduce reconstruction accuracy. It is verified that the two proposed methods remedy these problems by taking the spatial properties of the inverse problem into account. Improvements in reconstruction quality achieved by the two proposed methods are further supported by reconstructions using synthetic diffraction data.
(Rontani et al., 1999;Hedlund et al., 2001;Melcher et al., 2002). Intensive studies of Marinobacter spp. metabolites of sufficient structural specificity suggest that they may have an important role as biological markers for microbial degradation in the aquatic environment. In this study, we present the characterization of novel bacteria of the genus Marinobacter that were isolated from sediments collected in Chazhma Bay, Sea of Japan. This work was part of the taxonomic investigation of free-living marine bacteria dwelling in the Bay, sediments of which were contaminated by radionuclides (Ivanova et al., 2002). Sediment samples were collected in 2001 from a depth of 0?5 m (salinity, 32 %; temperature, 12 u C) at Chazhma Bay, Sea of Japan. Bacteria were isolated by plating 0?1 ml of a suspension of 1 g sediment in 10 ml sterilized natural sea water onto marine 2216 agar plates (Difco) or plates with medium B that contained 0?2 % (w/v) Bacto peptone (Difco), 0?2 % (w/v) casein hydrolysate (Merck), 0?2 % (w/v) Bacto yeast extract (Difco), 0?1 % (w/v) glucose,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
