For marriage promotion interventions to be effective, social policy for increasing other social benefits (e.g., child welfare, family financial self‐sufficiency), they must increase numbers and/or quality of marriages in such a way to produce those other social benefits. Evidence should show that particular interventions (a) produce increases in numbers and/or quality of marriages, (b) produce increases in other benefits, and (c) produce increases in other benefits through the changes in marriages described in (a). There is some evidence that marriage promotion interventions have produced small increases in numbers and quality of marriages, but there is little evidence regarding the extent to which these interventions have produced other intended social benefits. We describe the nature of additional data and analyses that would enable us to determine the extent to which marriage promotion interventions are effective ways to increase other social benefits.
This edition provides critical insight into the classic Japanese folktale comonly referred to as “The Ghost of Sakura.” Themes include the narrative of the feudal peasant, the cultural importance of the collective good, and the Western view of Japanese culture. We have also included two original essays by Mitford and an article from the New York Times in order to contextualize the cultural importance of this narrative on a global scale.

The currents of the Southern Ocean connect to every ocean basin and distribute water between them, making these currents an important quantity to monitor and understand as they change over time. In situ instrumentation is difficult to deploy within this region, however these currents create bottom pressure signals at major bathymetric obstacles which are observable by the GRACE and GRACE Follow-On satellites.

In this study, we examine the relationships between the Antarctic Circumpolar Current and the Antarctic Bottom Water within the Southern Ocean and the bottom pressure gradients at the Kerguelen Plateau seamount and the Drake Passage sill using the high resolution Southern Ocean State Estimate. Then we use these relationships along with bottom pressure gradients from the RL05 and RL06 mascon solutions from the Center for Space Research at the University of Texas at Austin to develop a real-life time series of the two currents.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
