Wheelchair basketball is an adaptive Paralympic sport and wheelchair basketball players are under classification in sport. Coaches are looking for useful assessment tools (field-based tests) to evaluate players’ anaerobic performance (anaerobic capacity). The aim of this study was to assess the validity of field-based tests for anaerobic performance evaluation for two functional categories of wheelchair basketball players and to create a calculator to predict mean or peak power on the basis of the selected field-based test results. Sixty-one elite male wheelchair basketball players performed the Wingate Anaerobic Test and the following field-based tests: 3 m sprint, 5 m sprint, 10 m sprint, 20 m sprint, basketball chest pass test, medicine ball (3 kg) chest pass test, bilateral handgrip, 3-6-9 m drill test, 30-s sprint test, agility drill test and 10 × 5 m sprint test. The participants were divided into two functional categories: A (classes from 1.0 to 2.5; n = 29) and B (classes from 3.0 to 4.5; n = 32) according to the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation rules. The large effect size (Cohen’s d > 0.5) was found in four tests (3 m sprint, 5 m sprint, basketball chest pass test, medicine ball chest pass test; ES 0.90, 0.53, –0.96, –1.05). There were differences between category A and category B players regarding mean power, peak power and relative peak power. Peak power correlated with four tests, while mean power correlated with eight out of eleven tests. The formulas for estimating peak power or mean power in category A and B players were created separately. All the analyses confirmed that 3 m sprint, 5 m sprint, 10 m sprint, 20 m sprint, agility drill test, bilateral handgrip, 3-6-9 m drill test, 30-s sprint test, basketball chest pass test and medicine ball chest pass test are valid for non-laboratory anaerobic performance evaluation. Using the four formulas as a tool to predict mean or peak power on the basis of the selected field-based test results and functional categories will be helpful and will allow coaches and players to prepare pre-season, post-season and in-season conditioning exercises in wheelchair basketball.
It is widely accepted that the sources of information used to guide interceptive actions depend on conflicting spatiotemporal task demands. However, there is a paucity of evidence that shows how information pick-up during interceptive actions is adapted to such conflicting constraints. The present study therefore examined the effects of systematic manipulations of spatiotemporal constraints on performance, timing and gaze in an in situ interceptive action. To this end, expert futsal goalkeepers faced penalty kicks taken from 10 m and 6 m. With the more lenient spatiotemporal constraints (i.e., kicks from 10 m), the goalkeepers saved more kicks, initiated their actions later, and looked longer toward ball relative to the penalty takers' body. Furthermore, analysis of gaze patterns showed that interindividual variations in information pick-up were related to the unfolding of the penalty taker's action, revealing a less variable, funnel-like gaze pattern toward the end of the action. Several recent studies have shown that the performance of a skill that involves acting on a goal object can influence one's judgment of the size of that object. The present study investigated this effect in an aviation context. Novice pilots were asked to perform a series of visual approach and landing manoeuvres in a flight simulator. After each landing, participants next performed a task in which runway size was judged for different simulated altitudes. Gaze behaviour and control stick kinematics were also analyzed. There were significant relationships between judged runway size and multiple action-related variables including touchdown velocity, time fixating the runway, and the magnitude and frequency of control inputs. These findings suggest that relationship between the perception of a target object and action is not solely determined by performance success or failure but rather involves a relationship between multiple variables that reflect the actor's ability.
La clase invertida se está convirtiendo en un método de enseñanza muy popular en el entorno educativo. Sin embargo, a día de hoy no existen suficientes investigaciones científicas que permitan avalar la idoneidad de la clase invertida como método en todas las áreas y niveles educativos. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar el rendimiento académico, la satisfacción y la percepción de la experiencia educativa de los estudiantes universitarios hacia el uso del método de flipped classroom. Este estudio, sigue un diseño mixto, en el que a través de técnicas cuantitativas se evaluó el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes y a través de técnicas cualitativas se analizó la satisfacción y percepción de los estudiantes y el docente hacia el método de clase invertida. La muestra total estaba formada por 94 estudiantes universitarios. Los resultados revelan que el alumnado obtuvo mejores resultados académicos con la clase invertida que con el método tradicional. Además, los estudiantes señalan que el método de clase invertida les permite aprovechar mejor el tiempo y tener un mayor aprendizaje. Como inconvenientes de este método destacan la inversión de tiempo previo que tienen que realizar para poder hacer un adecuado uso del método y la importancia de la calidad de los recursos tecnológicos utilizados. Se puede concluir que el método de clase invertida es adecuado para el ámbito universitario, ya que mejora la adquisición de los contenidos y motiva al alumnado, pero requiere de unos adecuados medios tecnológicos.
