Burnout Syndrome (SB) or "Professional Exhaustion" is recognized worldwide as one of the major psychosocial problems that affect the quality of life of professionals in several areas, especially those involving health care, education and human services, generating an important occupational and social issue. This research had as main objective to determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in health professionals who work in primary care in the city of Sobral (CE), and also to know through scientific literature as consequences of Burnout Syndrome (SB) and stress in the work of professionals working in primary health care (PHC). This is a descriptive, epidemiological, cross-sectional study. In the first article, a bibliographic review was carried out with an exploration of scientific productions of the consequences of Burnout Syndrome (SB) and stress at work. As a result of the bibliographic research it was possible to conclude that the consequences of Burnout Syndrome have negative effects for the company, the worker and his profession. The second article aimed to determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in health professionals working in PHC. The prevalence of (17.55%) was found in the studied population. With regard to the characteristics of the studied population, we obtained: (51.8%) nurses; (13.1%) dentists; (8.6%) doctors; (6.5%) psychologists; (5.3%) social work; (3.7%) physical therapists; (0.4%) speech therapists; (3.3%) nutritionists; (4.1%) physical educator; (0.4%) occupational therapist and (3.7%) pharmacists. Of those who answered, we found that the majority (79.6%) were female; the majority (93.5%) have religion / spirituality; (59.6%) has some type of postgraduate qualification; (51%) have no children; (53.9%) own a home; (69.8%) earn between 1 and 3 minimum wages; (75.1%) have no other job; (88.8%) work 40 hours or more per week. Regarding the dimensions of the Burnout syndrome, the majority (44.5%) had moderate symptoms of emotional exhaustion; (66.9%) mild symptoms of depersonalization and (61.7%) with symptoms of low professional achievement. The results revealed that more than half of the evaluated professionals had a high to moderate degree of risk for developing Burnout Syndrome. With the two articles carried out, we conclude that BS is frequent among PHC workers and that they cause negative effects on work and on the supply of that work in PHC.
