Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) affects behavior, language, and personality. This study aims to explore functional connectivity changes in three FTD variants: behavioral (bvFTD), semantic (svPPA), and nonfluent variant (nfvPPA). Seventy-six patients diagnosed with FTD by international criteria and thirty-two controls were investigated. Functional connectivity from resting functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was estimated for the whole brain. Two types of analysis were done: network basic statistic and topological measures by graph theory. Several hubs in the limbic system and basal ganglia were compromised in the behavioral variant apart from frontal networks. Nonfluent variants showed a major disconnection with respect to the behavioral variant in operculum and parietal inferior. The global efficiency had lower coefficients in nonfluent variants than behavioral variants and controls. Our results support an extensive disconnection among frontal, limbic, basal ganglia, and parietal hubs.
Deaf Children usually achieve lower scores on numerical tasks than normally hearing peers. Explanations for mathematical disabilities in hearing children are based on quantity representation deficits (Geary, 1994) or on deficits in accessing these representations (Rousselle & Noël, 2008). The present study aimed to verify, by means of symbolic (Arabic digits) and nonsymbolic (dot constellations and hands) magnitude comparison tasks, whether deaf children show deficits in representations or in accessing numerical representations. The study participants were 10 prelocutive deaf children and 10 normally hearing children. Numerical distance and magnitude were manipulated. Response time (RT) analysis showed similar magnitude and distance effects in both groups on the 3 tasks. However, slower RTs were observed among the deaf participants on the symbolic task alone. These results suggest that although both groups’ quantity representations were similar, the deaf group experienced a delay in accessing representations from symbolic codes.
The present study is a systematic review focused in sport managers’ profile and the main purpose is to map the literature of sport managers’ competencies and tasks from January of 2000 to January of 2019. The search was made on EBSCO, B-on, Web Science and Scopus using the following keywords: ‘sport managers OR sport directors OR sport administrators’, ‘sport managers AND qualifications’, ‘sport managers AND responsibilities’, ‘sport managers AND traits’, ‘sport managers AND roles’, ‘sport managers AND competencies’ and ‘sport managers AND characteristics’ in peer reviewed articles and dissertations. After applying the inclusion criteria, 65 studies were selected. Sport managers are, predominantly, men in their thirties and forties, with a degree in physical education. A sport manager must have competencies such as leadership, integrity, specific knowledge, resource allocation, authority’s delegation, employees’ motivation and innovative thinking to accomplish the most important and more time consuming responsibilities like planning/organization, coordination/evaluation or information.
