The effects of supplementing canthaxanthin on productive and reproductive aspects of broiler breeders were examined in this study. In total, 360 female pullets and 36 roosters were placed in an open-sided house with 12 pens, each pen with an area of 7.0 m(2) (3.5 × 2.0 m). At 42 wk of age, the breeder hens and roosters were distributed into 2 experimental groups with similar BW and uniformity. From 46 to 66 wk of age, one group received 6 mg/kg of canthaxanthin supplemented in the diet and the other group received the diet without the addition of canthaxanthin (control diet). Body weight was measured every 28 d, the laying rate was calculated weekly, and mortality was evaluated at the end of the study. Twenty-one weekly incubations were performed to evaluate fertility and incubation responses. To evaluate the antioxidant effect of canthaxanthin at different storage times and during the incubation process, eggs from each treatment were subject to thiobarbituric reactive substances analysis. Body weight, mortality, and laying rate were not affected by the inclusion of canthaxanthin in the breeder's diets. An increase in hatchability of total and fertile eggs (P ≤ 0.0001 and P ≤ 0.0003, respectively) in breeders fed canthaxanthin during the experimental period was observed. Canthaxanthin also improved breeder fertility and reduced embryo mortality. This can be attributed to reductions in embryo mortality in the first 48 h of incubation and in the last wk of incubation. No differences were observed in BW and quality of the chicks. A reduction of thiobarbituric reactive substances was observed in yolks from stored hatching eggs produced by breeders fed diets plus canthaxanthin. The same effect was observed in yolks of eggs stored for 4 d and incubated for 7 d. The supplementation of broiler breeder diets with canthaxanthin improved the hatchability rate, fertility, and reduced the presence of thiobarbituric reactive substances in eggs.
RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos do óleo ácido de soja (OAS) sobre coeficientes de extinção específica da oxidação (K232 e K270) e a metabolizabilidade das dietas e o desempenho produtivo em codornas. Um total de 80 codornas de duplo propósito foram usadas num experimento com duração de 56 dias. Foi utilizado um delineamento completamente ao acaso com cinco níveis de tratamentos para OAS (0, 25, 50, 75 e 100%), com oito repetições de duas aves cada, como substituto ao óleo de soja refinado (OS) incluído até um nível máximo de 8% na formulação da dieta. O índice de acidez e os coeficientes K232 e K270 mostraram um efeito linear crescente (P<0,001) com o aumento dos níveis de inclusão de OAS na formulação das dietas. Os coeficientes K232 e K270 não foram alterados com o armazenamento das rações durante 7 dias. A suplementação com OAS durante 56 dias não afetou o desempenho produtivo das codornas. Os resultados não mostraram efeitos do OAS sobre a metabolizabilidade de ingredientes, exceto para gordura bruta que exibiu um efeito quadrático decrescente até o nível de 50% de substituição do óleo de soja por OAS (y= 94,31-1,186x+0,018x2, R2= 0,28, P= 0,02). Em conclusão, a inclusão de até 8% de OAS na dieta durante um período curto de tempo (56 dias) não produz efeitos adversos no desempenho produtivo de codornas.
O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar os efeitos do uso prolongado de lecitina e óleo ácido de soja sobre a histologia duodenal e qualidade óssea de codornas japonesas na fase de postura. Foram utilizados 192 aves com 54 dias de idade as quais foram alimentadas durante 168 dias (metade da sua vida produtiva) com dietas contendo óleo degomado de soja (ODS) ou óleo acido de soja (OAS) associadas ou não com lecitina bruta de soja (LEC), totalizando 8 tratamentos descritos à seguir: T1 - dieta com 4% OAS; T2 - dieta com 4% OAS e 1% LEC; T3 – dieta com 8% OAS; T4 – dieta com 8% OAS e 1% LEC; T5 – dieta com 4% ODS; T6 - dieta com 4% ODS e 1% LEC; T7 - dieta com 8% ODS; T8 - dieta com 8% ODS e 1% LEC. Ao final do período experimental foram coletadas amostras do duodeno para morfometria de vilos e criptas, e as tíbias para as análises de força, rigidez, flexibilidade e cinzas totais. Foi verificado interação dupla significativa entre tipo de óleo e lecitina para profundidade de cripta (P=0,04). Codornas alimentadas com dietas contendo OAS na presença de LEC apresentaram significativamente menor profundidade de cripta em relação as aves alimentas apenas com OAS. No entanto, quando as aves foram alimentadas com ODS essas diferenças devido a presença de LEC não foram significativas. O nível mais alto de óleo (8%) na dieta e a lecitina (1%) reduziram o conteúdo total de cinzas nas tíbias (P<0,05). Conclui-se que a associação entre lecitina e o óleo ácido de soja foi positiva para a manutenção do tecido intestinal mas não afetou a qualidade óssea das aves.
The effects of increasing levels of soybean acid oil in diets of quails on the quality of eggs were evaluated over a period of 56 days. A completely randomized design with five treatment levels of soybean acid oil (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8%) as a replacer for soybean oil and eight replicates of two quails each were used. A total of 240 fresh eggs were used for quality analysis, and 400 eggs were stored at 23ºC over a period of 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days for analysis of shelf-life. Polynomial regression and ANOVA with repeated measurements and Tukey´s tests were used. Soybean acid oil linearly increased the intensity of red (a* = -5.26 + 0.14 x, R 2 = 0.89, P = 0.01) and yellow (b* = 42.32 + 0.44 x, R 2 = 0.88 P = 0.01). All other variables of egg qualitywere not affected by the treatments, with the exception of sensory attributes, such as odor and aftertaste, which were more pronounced with soybean acid oil. In conclusion, soybean acid oil affects the intensity of yellow and red color of the yolk. Trained assessors detected differences in odor and aftertaste of eggs when soybean acid oil was included in the quail diet.
