Summary Introduction The objective was to investigate the clinical effect of an adjustable pulse width Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) vs an adjustable pulse width PDL combined with fractional CO2 laser in treating immature red hypertrophic scars. Methods Fifty‐six patients (56 sites)were randomly divided into a treatment group and control group. The control group was treated with the 595 nm PDL at a fluence of 7‐15J/cm2 and pulse widths of 1.5‐3 ms, 7 mm spot size. The treatment group was treated with a fractional CO2 laser (UltraPulse CO2: Deep FX, Energy: 30~50 mJ, Frequency: 300 Hz, Density 5%, Scan Shape, and Spot Size were decided by shape and area of scar) after utilizing the 595 nm adjustable pulse width PDL (Fluence: 7‐15J/cm2, Pulse widths: 1.5‐3 ms, Spot size: 7 mm). MEBT/MEBO, previously described as a post‐treatment wound ointment, was used after laser treatment. The scars of the treatment group and the control group were evaluated for changes in pigment, height, vascularity, and pliability using the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) after two laser treatments. Results The total VSS score, as well as the score for melanin, height, vascularity, pliability in both groups, showed an obvious decrease following the treatments. There were statistically significant differences between before treatment and after treatment (P < .05); however, the total score of the VSS, and score of the melanin, height, vascularity, and pliability in the control group decreased more than that of treatment group, and there was a statistically significant difference (P < .05). Conclusions The 595 nm adjustable pulse width PDL combined with the fractional CO2 fractional laser appears to have a beneficial clinical effect on fresh red hypertrophic scars, with no severe adverse reactions seen.

Increasing evidence shows that dysregulation of microRNAs is correlated with tumor development. This study was performed to determine the expression of miR-141 and investigate its clinical significance in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Taqman quantitative RT-PCR was used to detect miR-141 expressions in 94 PDAC tissues and 16 nontumorous pancreatic tissues. Correlations between miR-141 expression and clinicopathologic features and prognosis of patients were statistically analyzed. The effects of miR-141 expression on growth and apoptosis of PDAC cell line (PANC-1) were determined by MTT, colony formation, and flow cytometry assays. Potential target genes were identified by luciferase reporter and Western blot assays. The expression level of miR-141 in PDAC tissues was significantly lower than that in corresponding nontumorous tissues. Downregulation of miR-141 correlated with poorer pT and pN status, advanced clinical stage, and lymphatic invasion. Also, low miR-141 expression in PDAC tissues was significantly correlated with shorter overall survival, and multivariate analysis showed that miR-141 was an independent prognostic factor for PDAC patients. Further, functional researches suggested that miR-141 inhibits growth and colony formation, and enhances caspase-3-dependent apoptosis in PANC-1 cells by targeting Yes-associated protein-1 (YAP1). Therefore, miR-141 is an independent prognostic factor for PDAC patients, and functions as a tumor suppressor gene by targeting YAP1.

This is the first study to demonstrate that RvD1 effects on the reduction of pro-inflammatory responses in LPS-induced microglial cells. The mechanisms underlying these effects may include its potent intracellular NF-κB down-regulation and subsequent pro-inflammatory cytokines release in LPS-activated microglia.

Background This article presents a new method using orbital septum for double-eyelid blepharoplasty. Methods During double-eyelid blepharoplasty, we incised the orbital septum horizontally. Using the attachment site of the levator aponeurosis as a pedicle, the lower part of the dissected orbital septum was turned downward and then sutured to the upper border of the lower orbicularis oculi muscle and posterior pretarsal fascia. We evaluated the efficacy of this double-eyelid surgical procedure in patients undergoing the procedure from December 2015 to October 2017. Results We included 462 eyes of 231 patients in the final analysis. Sutures were removed 7 days after surgery. All double-eyelid creases were well formed, and the eyelids closed well. Six-month follow-up results revealed that the double-eyelid shape was natural looking, and no patients experienced upper eyelid retraction or incomplete eye closure. Notched scars did not occur, and patient satisfaction was achieved in all cases. Two hundred eleven patients were fully satisfied with the surgical results, and 20 were basically satisfied with the surgical results. Conclusions Using the orbital septum is a good approach for double-eyelid blepharoplasty.
