Some infectious diseases, including COVID-19, are primarily transmitted via droplets and aerosols. Droplets are larger in particle size and settle to the ground faster due to gravity (3-6 feet) [3]. Aerosols are smaller in particle size and remain airborne for relatively long durations. The aerosol particle size has not been conclusively defined and reportedly ranges from less than 5 µm to 50 µm [4]. Larger particles can carry a higher quantity of viral load and are more likely to be deposited in the upper airways. In contrast, particles smaller than 10
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
