Pion inelastic scattering at 180 MeV from the low-lying collective states of "C and "Ca is analyzed using distortedwave impulse approximation calculations with no free parameters and transition densities obtained from electron scattering. These calculations adequately reproduce the pion scattering data. No significant m + vs n. differences are observed at low-momentum transfers.NUCI. EAR REACTIONS: C(g,~) and Ca(7t, 7t ), g =180 MeV. Measured 0(8), DWIA analysis,~vs 7r comparisons.
