Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) for usage as a spindle drive in a spinning machine along with it's power electronics converter will be presented in this paper. The SRM drive system is intended to meet the increasing demands of the textile industry with respect to manufacturing time, costs and quality of textile twists. The desired SRM drive system is supposed to run at high speed up to 30000 rpm and has to be robust, efficient and low cost since a mass production is aspired. In cooperation with the German machine building factories a new innovative generation of electric single drives was developed. These drives are intended to replace conventional belt drive systems in spinning machines.
