The advantages of higher phase order (HPO) drives have been reviewed, and the results of the investigations of a five-phase inverter-fed induction motor are presented. Methods of improving the waveform of the motor phase current in the five-phase drive have been examined theoretically as well as experimentally. A mathematical model based on complex symmetrical components has been developed for theoretical investigations, and a prototype Eve-phase inverter-fed induction motor drive has been fabricated to conduct experimental studies. The results of the theoretical and experimental investigations under various operating modes are presented. The studies have established that the Eve-phase drive operates satisfactorily when fed from a pulsewidth-modulated inverter.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
