The six new taxa described here are some of several recently discovered, unnamed eucalypts occurring in Victoria. Others will be treated in future papers. All six are markedly restricted and are described as subspecies within three existing species. Two subspecies occur in the Wimmera region; Eucalyptus viminalis Labill. subsp. siliceana Rule is from the Wail State Forest, and £ goniocalyx F. Muell. ex Miq. subsp. viridissima Rule is from Mt. Arapiles and in parts of the northern Grampians. Three subspecies occur near Bacchus Marsh; £ goniocalyx F. Muell. ex Miq. subsp. laxa Rule, is from the Brisbane Ranges to the south-west of Bacchus Marsh, £ goniocalyx F. Muell. ex Miq. subsp. falfax Rule in the Blackwood Range to the north-west of Bacchus Marsh, and £ baueriano Schauer subsp. thalassina Rule is from the Werribee River catchment area. Eucalyptus baueriana Schauer subsp. deddickensis Rule is from the Deddick River in East Gippsland. The affinities, ecology, distribution and conservation status of each taxon are discussed.
Seven new taxa of eucalypts endemic to Victoria are named and described and their distributions, ecologies, affinities and conservation status are discussed. These are Eucalyptus litoralis K. Rule, Eucalyptus pyrenea K. Rule, Eucalyptus hawkeri K. Rule, Eucalyptus walshii K. Rule, Eucalyptus filiformis K. Rule, Eucalyptus tricarpa L.A.S. Johnson & K.D. Hill subsp. decora K. Rule, and Eucalyptus polyanthemos Schauer subsp. margirtalis K. Rule. As well, the discovery near Nurcoung in the Wimmera region of a small population of mallees with features consistent with Eucalyptus calycogona Turcz. subsp. calycogona is discussed.
Rule, K. Eucalyptus wimmerensis, a new species of Eucalyptus from Victoria and South Australia. Muelleria 7(2): 193-201 (1990) -Eucalyptus wimmerensis K. Rule a sporadically distributed, relatively rare, mallee-box species of the Wimmera Region of Western Victoria and the Upper South East of South Australia is described and other mallee-box species with which it has been confused and/or has close affinities are discussed. Also discussed is its conservation status.
Rule, K. Eucalyptus silvestris, a new species of Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae) for Victoria and South Australia and notes on Victorian occurrences of Eucalyptus odorata. Muelleria 8(2): 193-199 (1994).-Eucalyptus silvestris K.Rule is described and its distribution, affinities and conservation status are discussed. As well, comparisons with E. odorata Behr, and other mallee-box species are made and clarifications about several Victorian collections previously referred to as E. odorata are given.
Rule, K. Two new subspecies within Eucalyptus leucoxylon E Muell. and notes on that species. Muelleria 7(3): 389-403 (1991). -Two new taxa within Eucalyptus leucoxylon F. Muell. are described, viz. ssp. stephaniae K. Rule, whose populations are sporadic over the sandy tracts of Upper South-east South Australia and the Wimmera region of Western Victoria, and ssp. connata K. Rule, whose markedly depleted populations occur in the vicinity of Melbourne and Geelong. The complex nature of E. leucoxylon is discussed, including aspects of its variable morphology and how they relate to its infraspecific taxonomy.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
