To reduce energy consumption in data centers, we propose architecture for coordinated control of information and communication technology (ICT) and cooling equipment. We also propose the minimum data set necessary for implementing such a function in data centers based on the ITU-T Recommendation L.1300, which received consent in September 2011. The significance and details of the minimum data set are presented. Other standardization activities on data set are also briefly summarized. This paper also presents the energy saving potential of coordinated control based on experiments in NTT. The results indicate that additional energy can be saved by adjusting the fan speed and temperature setting among multiple units of computer room air conditioner, in response to heat generation due to operation of ICT equipment.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
