Comparing an extended form of the Landau-de Gennes model for the order parameter with the free elastic energy for the director field of a nematic liquid crystal the temperature dependence of the Frank elastic constants is found. The theoretical results are in agreement with both the recent measurements and with molecular statistical theories.Durch Vergleich eines erweiterten Landau-de Gennes Modells fur den Ordnungsparameter mit der freien elastischen Energie fur das Direktorfeld eines nematischen Fliissigkristalls findet man die Temperaturabhangigkeit der Frankschen elastischen Konstanten. Die theoretischen Ergebnisse sind sowohl in tfbereinstimmung mit jiingsten Messungen als auch mit molekular-statistischen Theorien.

The stability of a two state process periodically driven inverted double pendulum is considered by Floquet's theory. A stability criterion is derived and numerically analysed. For some values of the excitation a stabilization is indeed possible. The corresponding parameter region is inside of the parameter region where a single pendulum is stabilized.
