The incorporation Er into BaTiO3 was studied by equilibrium conductivity, lattice parameter, Curie temperature, and micro analysis (SEM, EPMA and TEM). Equilibrium conductivity measurements indicated that Er occupies the Ba-site and the Ti-site near equally when Ba/Ti<=1, however it occupies only the Ti-site when Ba/Ti>1.0. Large difference of the lattice parameter between the samples with Ba/Ti<=1 and Ba/Ti>1 can be explained by the change of incorporation of Er into BaTiO3.
