In the present study biodiesel was synthesized from Waste Cook Oil (WCO) by three-step method and regressive analyzes of the process was done. The raw oil, containing 1.9wt% Free Fatty Acid (FFA) and viscosity was 47.6mm 2 /s. WCO was collected from local restaurant of Sylhet city in Bangladesh. Transesterification method gives lower yield than three-step method. In the three-step method, the first step is saponification of the oil followed by acidification to produce FFA and finally esterification of FFA to produce biodiesel. In the saponification reaction, various reaction parameters such as oil to sodium hydroxide molar ratio and reaction time were optimized and the oil to NaOH molar ratio was 1:2, In the esterification reaction, the reaction parameters such as methanol to FFA molar ratio, catalyst concentration and reaction temperature were optimized. Silica gel was used during esterification reaction to adsorb water produced in the reaction. Hence the reaction rate was increased and finally the FFA was reduced to 0.52wt%. A factorial design was studied for esterification reaction based on yield of biodiesel. Finally various properties of biodiesel such as FFA, viscosity, specific gravity, cetane index, pour point, flash point etc. were measured and compared with biodiesel and petro-diesel standard. The reaction yield was 79%.
Adsorption characteristics of water hyacinth roots powder for the removal of Indosol Dark-blue GL dye were investigated in batch mode. Operating variables, such as initial solution pH, presence of detergent, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration and contact time, were studied. The results showed that the adsorption of dye increased with increasing the initial concentration and contact time. The adsorption is highly pH dependent and adsorption capacity increased with decrease in pH. Kinetic study revealed that the uptake of Indosol Dark-blue GL was very rapid within the first 15 min and equilibrium time was independent of initial concentration. Batch equilibrium experiments were carried out at different pH and found that equilibrium data fitted well to Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum sorption capacity of the adsorbent was found as 86 mg g -1 at pH 3 which reduced to 64 mg g -1 at pH 5. The presence of detergent reduced the sorption capacity of the adsorbent significantly. Using equilibrium and kinetic data, the forward and backward rate constants were determined from the unified approach model. Desorption study revealed that the dye can be recovered by swing the pH from low to high.
In this paper, production of biodiesel from mixed feedstock oil (MFO) by three-step method and optimization of the process were studied by using regressive analysis. The random mixer of different oil was used for biodiesel preparation. The MFO contains 12 wt% free fatty acid (FFA) and its viscosity was 67.5 mm 2 /s. Because of higher FFA content transesterification method can't be applied, so three-step method was conducted for biodiesel preparation. In the three-step method, the first step was saponification of the oil followed by acidification to produce FFA and finally esterification of FFA to produce biodiesel. In the saponification reaction, various reaction parameters such as oil to sodium hydroxide molar ratio and reaction time were optimized. Produced sodium soap was acidified with excess molar ratio of HCl to produced FFA. In the esterification reaction, produced FFA was reacted with methanol in presence of acid catalyst and the FFA content was reduced to 0.98wt%. A factorial design was studied based on viscosity for esterification reaction and developed to obtain the higher yield of biodiesel. Finally various properties of biodiesel such as FFA content, viscosity, specific gravity, cetane index, pour point etc. were measured and compared with biodiesel and petro-diesel standard.
