We propose an alternative to the classical post-treatment of the homogenization method for shape optimization. Rather than penalize the material density once the optimal composite shape is obtained (by the homogenization method) in order to produce a workable shape close to the optimal one, we macroscopically project the microstructure of the former through an appropriate procedure that roughly consists in laying the material along the directions of lamination of the composite. We have tested our approach in the framework of compliance minimization in twodimensional elasticity. Numerical results are provided.
This work revisits recent results on maximal multiplicity induced-dominancy for spectral values in reduced-order time-delay Systems and extends it to the general class of second-order retarded differential equa- tions. A parametric multiplicity-induced-dominancy property is characterized, allowing to a delayed stabilizing design with reduced complexity. As a matter of fact, the approach is merely a delayed-output-feedback where the candidates’ delays and gains result from the manifold defining the maximal multiplicity of a real spectral value, then, the dominancy is shown using the argument principle. Sensitivity of the control design with respect to the pa- rameters uncertainties/variation is discussed. Various reduced order examples illustrate the applicative perspectives of the approach.
In this paper we introduce a novel certified shape optimization strategy -named Certified Descent Algorithm (CDA) -to account for the numerical error introduced by the Finite Element approximation of the shape gradient. We present a goal-oriented procedure to derive a certified upper bound of the error in the shape gradient and we construct a fully-computable, constant-free a posteriori error estimator inspired by the complementary energy principle. The resulting CDA is able to identify a genuine descent direction at each iteration and features a reliable stopping criterion. After validating the error estimator, some numerical simulations of the resulting certified shape optimization strategy are presented for the well-known inverse identification problem of Electrical Impedance Tomography.
In this paper, we derive nonlinearly elastic membrane plate models for hyperelastic incompressible materials using Γ-convergence arguments. We obtain an integral representation of the limit two-dimensional internal energy owing to a result of singular functionals relaxation due to Ben Belgacem [6].
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
