The issue under study is topical and significant in modern pedagogics because it is related not only to the great role that motivation plays in the process of students' learning a foreign language, but also a shortage of efficient motivational techniques enhancing this process used in class. Researchers state that among other factors influencing acquisition of knowledge the one of motivation is the most significant. The technique of keeping a Reflective Journal (RJ) has been worldwide used in teaching practice; however, in Russia it hasn't been applied so widely. The article aims at studying the impact the use of RJ Writing has on enhancing students' learning motivation. The study was conducted in Kazan State University where 30 upper-intermediate students learning English took part in the experiment. The methods used to explore the problem were literature review, experiment conducted in Kazan Federal University, questionnaires administered to students and their analysis. Results of the post-study questionnaire administered at the end of the course demonstrated a high level of students' learning motivation. The findings showed that the RJ Writing, alongside with improving learning and increasing selfconfidence, enhanced students' motivation. The article's materials could be useful for university teachers interested in ways of enhancement of their students' motivation, thus promoting their progress in studies.
The article describes the principles and methods of teaching Business English to the intending interpreters, translators and English teachers. The necessity to study the techniques of teaching it is conditioned by the importance of the English language as a means of international communication in the professional sphere. The authors of the article describe their experience in Business English teaching at the Higher School of Foreign Languages and Translation of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University. The process of teaching Business English is designed to improve the students' knowledge of business terms, idioms; to improve the related language, communication and translation skills; to prepare for international certification; to develop motivation and leadership. The survey results and observation make it possible to conclude that learning Business English is one of the most significant components in the linguistic professional education, which is recommended to be included into the list of obligatory academic subjects.
Цель исследования состоит в выявлении стилистических особенностей англоязычного туристического дискурса на материале сайта visitlondon.com. Научная новизна заключается в выделении стилистических средств, являющихся стилеобразующими для рекламных текстов в рамках туристического дискурса. В результате детального изучения 123 рекламных текстов были выявлены такие стилистические приемы, как эпитет, метафора, гипербола, метонимия, антитеза, градация и др., в количестве 161 лексической единицы, самыми частотными из которых являются эпитет и простое прилагательное. Эпитеты и прилагательные были распределены по 17 лексико-семантическим группам. С точки зрения синтаксиса проведенный анализ выявил риторические вопросы, вопросно-ответные конструкции, императивные конструкции, эллипс, предложения с однородными членами и др. Адрес статьи: www.
