The period of existence and spread of Corona virus has led to the use of all means of remote education as an urgent necessity for all educational facilities, especially universities. Aim: Therefore, it was necessary to study the impact of online remote education on the learning process among nursing students through the study of two courses: health information management at 6th semester and gerontology nursing course at 4th semester. Tool of Data Collection: Online education assessment questionnaire is a modified tool comprised of forty statements used in paper survey and online survey. Sample: A purposive samples of 224 undergraduate students enrolled in two nursing courses during spring semesters 2019 and 2020. Setting: The field of study was the nursing faculty at Misr University for Science and Technology. Results: The main results illustrated positive impact of online remote education on the learning process as more than half of the students (53.9%) had prior experience on online system use, and more than two third (62.5%) were competent in mobile/computer applications. Almost, two third (59.3%) agreed about online assessment experience, except that the online exam was anxious, and the time was insufficient to answer all questions. Also, more than two third (64.7%) agreed on the elements of the learning process of the two nursing courses. Conclusion: The study concluded that there was positive impact of online education system on the learning process for nursing students except that the students were not able to decide that the remote online education system can replace traditional face-to-face learning. Recommendation: It is recommended to repeat the study on a large scale of nursing students to assess the possibility of inducing a positive impact of online remote education on clinical nursing courses if Corona virus still coexists. Future research is recommended to assess the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats accompanied with remote learning management systems from teachers and students perspectives.
Background: The huge multiplicity of scrub and circulator nurses'activities affects the quality performance of perioperative nursing roles. Therefore, the pursuit of perfect practice of perioperative nursing roles should focus on assessing the performance gaps in these roles and use of lean management strategies for effective patient care delivery. Aim: The study aimed to assess the effect of lean management strategies on the quality of perioperative nursing roles. Design and Setting: A quasi experimental design was used to implement the study in the operating room at new Dar Al Fouad Hospital, Cairo, Egypt. Tool of Data Collection: Observational checklist tool aimed to assess the perioperative nursing roles of scrub and circulator nurses, the tool consisted of two main parts; first part is the performance observation of scrub nurse role, and the second part is the performance observation of circulator nurse role. Results: The results of the present study illustrated that the perioperative nursing roles for scrub nurses of met standards performance were improved from above half normal to above three quarter, and the met standards performance of the circulator nurses roles were also improved from less than one fifth to near three fifth with statistical significance difference at p<0.005for both roles post implementation of the lean management strategies. Conclusion: The perioperative nursing roles of scrub and circulator nurses were improved post implementation of lean management strategies which induced positive effect in the elimination of un-value added activities and volume based activities through designing new supportive roles included anesthesia nurse, post anesthesia care unit nurse, surgical technologist, instrumentation technician, nurse aids, store keeper in addition to other relevant roles such as lean team. Recommendation: Focused training program is recommended for all OR personnel with periodic evaluations of the perioperative nursing roles and the new supportive perioperative roles. Further research is recommended to disseminate the developed lean management strategies and investigate its effect on the perioperative nursing in different settings.
Background: Nursing activities refer to providing both direct and indirect care to patients in community settings, particularly intensive care units where care for critically ill, disabled and dying patients may burden the nurses' productivity and quality of patient care, reflecting on their personal lives and leading to dissatisfaction about job and absenteeism. Therefore, work-life balancing practices aim to reduce stress and absenteeism and improve nurses' performance. Hence, improving work life balance (WLB) is of outmost importance to nurses, as it is the basis of the quality of working life (QWL). Aim: To assess the effect of nursing activities on the quality of work-life balance, absenteeism, and job satisfaction at intensive care units. Design: A Descriptive-Correlational research design was used. Setting: Mansoura University Hospitals' eight intensive care units. Subjects: A convenient sample included all nurses who are working in the above-mentioned setting (100 nurses). Tools: Five tools used for data collection: Tool (I) Self-administered questionnaire which included two parts (1) Nurse's socio-demographic characteristics data and (2) Work-life Balance Scale, Tool (II) Modified quality worklife questionnaire, Tool (III) Nurses perception related to job satisfaction, Tool (IV) Nurses absenteeism rate from nurses' attendance records, and Tool (V) Patients Acuity aimed to maintain equitable nurse to patient care assignment. Results: The majority of the nurses in the research said they had a poor overall Work-life interfered with the personal life of about two-thirds of nurses (67%), which indicated a poor life balance. Also, the results showed that personal life overlapped with work for more than half (52%), while it was found that the work/personal life improvement was low for more than a third (41%) of the nurses. There was a moderate correlation between the nurses' overall quality of work life and the general work-life balance, with a statistically significant difference at p < 0.01. Furthermore, nurses' job satisfaction was associated with overall quality of work life and overall work-life balance. Conclusion: A positive correlation between nurses' work-life balance, quality of work-life, absenteeism, and job satisfaction in ICUs at Mansoura University Hospital at. Recommendations: The work-life balance initiatives/strategies should be encompassed within national/international quality standards of healthcare system. Also further research is recommended to seek nurses' needs on such suggested standards.
Background: COVID-19 and its novel strains have spreads everywhere worldwide, which require positive attitudes and sustainability of preventive practices measures among people. Aim: The study aimed to assess perception and practices of Nursing College students and employees at Misr University for Science and Technology regarding COVID-19. Design and Setting: A 802 participants of cross-sectional population survey study was conducted at the College of Nursing at Misr University for Science and Technology. Tool of Data Collection: Questionnaire consisted of four sections; The 1st section was about the demographic characteristics of study participants and vaccination data; the 2nd section was to assess knowledge about COVID-19; the 3rd section was to assess the study participants attitudes toward COVID-19, while the 4th section was about the practices of the prevention and control measures of COVID-19. Results:62.5% of the participants were males, with the mean age of 22. Seventy-two of the study participants had received COVID-19 vaccines, 98.6 % was having a satisfactory level of knowledge and 99.4% showed positive attitude, meanwhile 100% of the participants revealed satisfactory level of practice. Conclusion: the majority of the study participants were having satisfactory level of knowledge and practices, as well positive attitudes regarding COVID-19. Recommendation: A continuous awareness raising, vaccination and practices the activities of health promotion are highly recommended to prevent and control infection of COVID-19.
