Anti-HBc-positive results on serologic testing are a marker of high risk for HCC among patients with HCV-related cirrhosis. Interferon therapy might be less effective in preventing HCC among patients with chronic hepatitis C who are anti-HBc-positive than in those with chronic hepatitis C who are anti-HBc-negative.
Quantum annealing is a promising heuristic method to solve combinatorial optimization problems, and efforts to quantify performance on real-world problems provide insights into how this approach may be best used in practice. We investigate the empirical performance of quantum annealing to solve the Nurse Scheduling Problem (NSP) with hard constraints using the D-Wave 2000Q quantum annealing device. NSP seeks the optimal assignment for a set of nurses to shifts under an accompanying set of constraints on schedule and personnel. After reducing NSP to a novel Ising-type Hamiltonian, we evaluate the solution quality obtained from the D-Wave 2000Q against the constraint requirements as well as the diversity of solutions. For the test problems explored here, our results indicate that quantum annealing recovers satisfying solutions for NSP and suggests the heuristic method is potentially achievable for practical use. Moreover, we observe that solution quality can be greatly improved through the use of reverse annealing, in which it is possible to refine returned results by using the annealing process a second time. We compare the performance of NSP using both forward and reverse annealing methods and describe how this approach might be used in practice.
Enantioselective C−H functionalization reactions using trivalent group 9 metals (Co, Rh, Ir) have been investigated mainly on the basis of the development of well-designed chiral cyclopentadienyl (Cp) ligands. Although it has recently been demonstrated that chiral carboxylic acids combined with achiral Cp-type ligands can enable highly enantioselective C−H functionalization reactions, the structural diversity of the applied chiral acids remains limited. Here, we report that chiral 2aryl ferrocene carboxylic acids, which are easily obtained from diastereoselective ortho lithiation and Suzuki−Miyaura coupling, can serve as external chiral sources for the Cp*Co III -catalyzed enantioselective C(sp 3 )−H amidation of α-aryl thioamides using dioxazolones.
It remains unclear whether lymphoma of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) in the extragastric organs is related to Helicobacter pylori infection or not. This report describes three patients with rectal MALT lymphoma negative for H. pylori infection, all of whom showed disease regression after being treated with antibiotics. One patient had MALT lymphoma in both the descending colon and the rectum; the other two patients had rectal disease only. None of the patients had chronic gastritis which was detectable either endoscopically or histologically and H. pylori infection was completely ruled out by various methods, including a urease breath test. These patients received antibiotic therapy. In all the patients, regression of MALT lymphoma was observed endoscopically and histologically, and polymerase chain reaction revealed that a previously observed rearranged band of immunoglobulin heavy chain had also disappeared after antibiotic treatment. These cases therefore suggest involvement of micro-organisms other than H. pylori in the development of rectal MALT lymphoma.
