E-learning behavior analysis is an important issue to the instruction based on Internet. This paper proposed a new method to analyze the E-learning behavior.It classified E-learning behaviors into several clusters by fuzzy clustering algorithm. Behaviors in the same cluster have the most common in characters, while behaviors between clusters have the least common.Experiments fully demonstrated that the proposed method can achieve good performance of analyzing E-learning behavior. It shows that by using cluster analysis, teachers can understand the students better in interest, personality and other informations. It also helps to develop effective educational resource and carry out the personalized instruction.Keywords--E-learning behavior; fuzzy cluster; pattern recognition . INTRODUCTION E-learning has become an important way to the education system. In E-learning environment, teaching and learning are separated, learning process is mainly managed by learner himself. So the supervisor cannot assess the learner correctly because of lacking enough information. Teachers are also difficult to provide individualized instruction to learners. How to find the effective E-learning behavior patterns is the key to solving the problem in E-learning environment, such as educational resources development, instruction, assessment, etc. As many researchers have tried different ways to analyze E-learners' behavior. Hu discussed the E-learning behavior collection model and its implementation based on SCORM and Web logs ( Hu Yun-an, 2003). Jiang tried to analyze the E-learning behavior by using BP neural network (Jiang Hua, 2005). Li studied the E-learning evaluation model based on behaviors analysis (Li Nian, 2007). The studies above provided assistance to recognize the patterns of E-learning behavior and provided assistance to the usage of E-learning behavior. However, the studies above are mostly on statistical analysis, still lacking in-depth analysis and intelligent cluster.In this study, fuzzy clustering method was used to mine E-learning behavior patterns.It describes the basic concepts of E-learning behavior and its measurement methods firstly, then it shows us the fuzzy clustering algorithm and its application in E-learning behavior analysis. At last it designed and implemented an E-learning behavior clustering system. We can master E-learners' behavior characteristics through the analysis of the results after running the system. .
