This paper presents a general survey of polyethyleneoxybenzoate (PEB). Manufacturing process, physical and chemical properties including its crystalline properties, fiber properties, and various applications of PEB are covered. Methyl-p-hydroxyethoxybenzoate is prepared from p-hydroxybenzoic acid, ethyleneoxide, and methanol and then condensated. PEB polymer consists of a mixture of two crystalline forms generally, and its rate of crystallization is rather slow, consequently its crystallinity is low.PEB fiber has some features, viz. a moderate Young's modulus, and excellent elastic recovery, weathering resistance, dyeing properties. and resistance to chemicals. Consequently, PEB fiber has silk-like touch and drape, good wrinkle resistance, fast and beautiful colouring, as well as properties of easy-care. Some properties of PEB film are described too.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG :Es wird cine cbersicht uber Polylthylenoxybenzoat (PEB) gegeben. HerstellungsprozeB. physikalische und chemische Eigenschaften, Charakteristika dcr Faser sowie verschiedene Anwendungen werden beschrieben.Methyl-p-hydroxyathoxybenzoat wurde aus p-Hydroxybenzoesaure, Athylenoxid und Methanol hergestellt und dann polykondensiert. PEB-Polymere bestehen im allgemeinen aus einem Ciemisch von zwei Kristallformen; sie kristallisieren ziemlich langsam, daher ist die Kristallinitat klcin.PEB-Fasern haben vielc charakteristische Eigenschaften. nPmlich einen mal)ig hohen Young-Modul, hohe elastische Erholung, hervorragendc Wetterbestlndigkeit und starke Widerstandsfahigkeit gegenuber vielen Chemikalien. Deshalb fiihlen sich Textilien aus PEB seidenahnlich an, haben eine hervorragende Knittcrfestigkeit und lassen sich leicht anfarbcn. Einige Eigenschaften von PEB-Filmen werden ebenfalls angefuhrt.
