Our objective was to describe the level of anxiety of students from Marabá, Pará and to make comparisons by gender and age. We interviewed 48 students, 56% female, aged between 18 and 29 years, from a public school, in last year of high school and/or students of vestibular preparatory courses. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used as an assessment tool. It was identified that 14 subjects (29.17%) students had low level of anxiety and 34 subjects (70.83%) students had a medium level of anxiety. In addition, there was no significant difference in anxiety levels in relation to the sex or age. We concluded that the majority of students (70.83%) has a mean level of anxiety without differences between gender and age. Developing methods for students to be able to have more skills in dealing with anxiety and stress can contribute to the decrease in their anxiety levels.
