The success of educational change inevitably depends on the quality and performance of teachers. Therefore, the importance of employing high quality teachers is crucial for educational systems. Choosing talented and committed brains to teaching career depends on making it an attractive profession. It is considered that there are some reasons why student teachers choose teaching as a career. Many studies reveal that while some students choose this profession with altruistic-intrinsic and extrinsic reasons, some others choose it under the influence of others. This study aims to determine for what reasons student teachers choose teaching profession as a career. The study was carried out quantitively and 1410 student teachers participated in this research. Results revealed that students chose teaching mostly with altruistic-intrinsic reasons. In this respect, while the female students chose it with altruistic-intrinsic reasons, the students from poor and crowded families and the male counterparts chose it with extrinsic reasons.
Teacher empowerment involves investing teachers with the right to participate in the determination of school goals and policies as informed by their professional judgment. By empowering teachers, teachers can discover their potential and limitations for themselves as well as developing competence in their professional development. This makes teacher empowerment a crucial issue. The primary aim of this research is to determine school administrators' roles in empowering the teachers at their schools. Research Method: In this study, the researcher used a qualitative research design. The data were analyzed in accordance with the content analysis method. The researcher interviewed 20 teachers through over the course of this study. The researcher chose the respondents according to the purposive sampling method.
As members of academic team, faculty behaviors have vital influence on students' lives at universities. This study purposes to discover students' perceptions about faculty behaviors concerning their professional responsibilities, dating/sexual harassment, behaviors inside and behaviors outside the classroom and relationship based on self-interest. The study employs both a quantitative and a qualitative research technique. Results reveal that students' considerations are negative in terms of faculty behaviors inside the classroom and faculty professional behaviors. Significant differences were discovered according to establishment dates of the universities and students' Grand Point Averages (GPAs).
Öz: Eğitim durumu ile yoksulluk arasında bir ilişki vardır. Yoksulluk tarihin her döneminde ve dünyanın her bölgesinde insanoğlunun en önemli sorunu olmuştur. Türkiye'nin özellikle kırsal bölgelerinde ve kentlerin çeperlerindeki mahallelerde kaliteli eğitim olanaklarından yeterince faydalanamayan bu ve nedenle merkezi sınavlarda başarılı olamayan dezavantajlı nüfus oldukça fazladır. Akademik başarısı düşük öğrenciler okulu terk etmekte ve aile bütçesine katkı sağlamak amacıyla günlük, geçici işlerde çalışmaktadırlar. Bu durum Doğu ve Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesindeki kentlerin kenar mahallelerinde ve özellikle mevsimlik işçi göçünün yoğun olduğu şehirlerde daha fazla görülebilmektedir. Bu çalışma, kentin dezavantajlı mahallelerindeki ortaokullarda görev yapan okul yöneticilerinin yoksulluk, yoksunluk, sosyal dışlanma ve aileleriyle mevsimlik göç yaşayan öğrencilerin okula devam etmeleri ve başarılarını artırmak için hangi çalışmaları yürüttükleri ve liderlik davranışlarını belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma, olgu bilim deseni ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma grubunun belirlenmesinde ölçüt örnekleme yöntemi ve verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır. Şehrin dezavantajlı kenar mahallelerindeki ortaokullarda öğrencilerin başarısız olması ailelerin yoksul, yoksun, çocuklarına karşı ilgisiz ve eğitime duyarsız olmalarının yanısıra, okulların eğitim kadrosu ile fiziki ve teknik alt yapı yetersizliklerinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Öğrenci başarısının artırılması yönünde ortaokul yöneticilerinin çaba göstermelerine karşın, dönüşümsel, karizmatik ve vizyoner liderlik özelliklerinin geliştirilmesi konularında eğitime gereksinimlerinin olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
