Loneliness is the feeling of distress that arises when an individual perceives his or her social relationships as being less satisfying than what is desired. Life satisfaction is a global assessment of an individual's quality of life based on his chosen criteria. This descriptive cross sectional study assessed loneliness, life satisfaction and psychological distress among 480 out of school adolescents using the UCLA loneliness scale, the Satisfaction with life scale (SWLS) and the General Health questionnaire. Reasons for out of school are poverty (45.0%), eager to do business (30.0%) and death of parents (20.0%). 25.8% experienced frequent loneliness while 24.2% had psychological distress. Findings were discussed in line with literature reviewed and recommendations made.
Reports have shown that the internet apart from its benefits to the educational development of young people is also associated with some negative effects on their psychological wellbeing. The most noticeable and troubling negative effect of the internet on young people is internet addiction which is the inability of an individual to control his or her use of the internet. Locus of Control (LOC) refers to an individual's personal belief that the events which occur in his or her life are either as a result of personal control and effort, or outside forces such as fate and luck.The Young internet addiction scale, Locus of control scale, and the GHQ-12 were used to assess internet addiction, locus of control and psychological distress among 835 undergraduates. Result revealed various levels of internet addiction, locus of control, and psychological distress among the respondents.

Self esteem refers to the extent to which a person values, approves or appreciates himself or herself. Self esteem has a prominent effect on one's mental health as well as personal balance. Adolescent is a stage in individual growth and development which has been notorious throughout the centuries as one of great emotional upset with wide fluctuations in behavior.The Locus of control scale, the Self esteem scale and the Beck's depression inventory-2 were used to assess locus of control, self esteem and depression among 720 school going adolescents from two Nigerian rural communities. Result revealed various levels of locus of control, self esteem and depression among the respondents.
In Nigeria communal conflicts are mainly caused due to disagreement communities have over land or some natural resources like oil deposits, solid minerals and water. Conflict can also arise when the communities want to defend their pride, properties or even themselves against the invasion of other communities. This study assessed the Psychological consequences of communal conflicts in a sample of 850 inhabitants from two communities in South east Nigeria using the following instruments; (1) The General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), (2)The Short Screening Scale for Post traumatic stress disorder, (3) The Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) and ( 4) the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-2). Result showed that 30.8% had psychological distress, 24.7% had post traumatic stress disorder; 22.5% and 14.5% had mild and moderate depression respectively. Furthermore, 27.9%, 16.4% and 3.6% had mild, moderate and severe anxiety disorder respectively. The results of the study were appropriately discussed with some recommendations.
