In early 2020, the Covid-19 crisis forced medical institutions worldwide to convert quickly to online platforms for content delivery. Although many components of medical education were adaptable to that format, anatomical dissection laboratory lost substantial content in that conversion, including features of active student participation, three-dimensional spatial relationships of structures, and the perception of texture, variation, and scale. The present study aimed to develop and assess online anatomy laboratory sessions that sought to preserve benefits of the dissection experience for first-year medical students. The online teaching package was based on a novel form of active videography that emulates eye movement patterns that occur during processes of visual identification, scene analysis, and learning. Using this video-image library of dissected materials, content was presented through asynchronous narrated laboratory demonstrations and synchronous/active video conference sessions and included a novel, video-based assessment tool. Data were obtained using summative assessments and a final course evaluation. Academic coaching requires an inquiry-based approach to framing questions that will lead learners to their own conclusions. It complements advising, which answers specific questions, and mentoring, which is longitudinal and relational. Coaches see the learner as expert, and they assist with planning, achieving goals, and remaining accountable. 1 Coaching can support academic performance, wellness, professionalism, leadership development, or skills training and does not require subject expertise. Notably, in skills coaching, coaching may look more directive than described below. 2 All 3 roles-coach, advisor, and mentor-entail developing a trusted relationship designed to support the learner; however, coaches spend more time probing and listening than telling and answering, as depicted below. While benefiting from the wealth generated by economic reform, China has also faced increasing social and environmental problems. With the restructuring of state enterprises, the previous occupational-based welfare system has been abolished. To decentralize the state's role in social protection while tackling social problems, the Chinese government has tried to experiment with different social measures to diversify welfare financing and provisions. Included in the social experiments are non-governmental organizations and charities. This paper provides a critical analysis of the social context of China since its economic reform, which, we argue, paves the way for the current development of NGOs and charities. This overview of current development of NGOs and charities in China also highlights existing structural problems.
