The article aims to contribute to discussions that relate Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the fundamental role of food in terms of nutrition. In this context, it primarily addresses the main actions regarding autism, as well as explaining its relationship with food. The research methodology was applied from the database using descriptors and inclusion criteria such as articles published in the period from 2017 to 2022. In this sense, there was a prevalence of refusal to feed the autistic child, because when analyzing the eating habits it is observed that behavior and food consumption are factors that directly interfere in the life of this population. The phenomenon known as food selectivity is frequent among children with ASD, in which it shows the repetition of the same foods consumed and the relationship between the presented texture. The food selectivity of these patients contributes to a greater demand in the consumption of high-calorie foods. It is concluded that dietary intervention becomes essential to improve the physical, mental and intestinal health of autistic patients.
