The world has been faced with the danger of a new type of coronavirus, which, as of December, poses a threat to itself and qualifies as a pandemic. The new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is a virus identified as a result of research conducted in a group of patients developing in late December in Wuhan Province, China. This virus, identified as Covid-19, has spread very quickly in a short time, first came to Europe and then it has influenced the whole world. It can be said that this virus, which is thought to affect people from all walks of life in society, has also affected students who had to interrupt face-to-face education for a while due to their negative impact on their educational life. Therefore, it is thought that it may be beneficial to determine the effect of the virus on students. Accordingly, it is aimed to reveal the perceptions of the students towards the virus in their minds. With the research, it is aimed to reveal the perceptions of middle school students towards Covid-19 through metaphors. In the study, phenomenology research design based on qualitative research approach was used. The participants of the study are 100 students who are studying at the sixth grade. Within the scope of the research, the data of middle school students "Covid-19…. because it is obtained by completing the sentence. Thus, the students' thoughts about Covid-19 and their perceptions in their minds were tried to be determined. The data obtained after the application were analyzed using content analysis. Metaphors written by students in the analysis of the data were classified according to their common features and frequency values were determined. According to the results obtained, 45 different metaphors about the concept of Covid-19 were produced by the students in the research. They have been associated with the characteristics of the Covid-19 outbreak, such as rapid spread in their minds, infectious, fatal, sickening, and long time to occur. The students mostly used the metaphors of "flu", "lice", "agent", "earthquake", "octopus" when making associations for Covid-19. Based on the perceptions of students' metaphor, suggestions based on the results of the research were made. The negative perceptions of Covid-19 virus on students should be eliminated through their teachers.
In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of the online science course, which is carried out by using the virtual museums created with the web 2.0 tool, on the academic achievement and science attitudes of the fifth-grade students. In addition, student opinions about the virtual museum were also taken within the scope of the study. The research was conducted based on mixed method research in which qualitative and quantitative research models were combined. Quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test control groups was used in the quantitative dimension. The study group consisted of a total of 100 fifth grade students studying at a public school in the academic year of 2020-2021. In the determination of the study group, the easily accessible case sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used. The study group was divided into two, and science teaching was carried out in the experimental group with a virtual museum created with web 2.0 tools; in the control group, traditional science teaching was carried out by adhering to the activities in the textbook. In the qualitative aspect of the study, opinions about the virtual museum were taken from the students. In the study, the science lesson attitude scale and the academic achievement test prepared for the subject of human and environment were used as data collection tools. While the data obtained from the science lesson attitude scale and achievement test were analysed with the SPSS program; the interview data were analysed using descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it was revealed that virtual museums, which are web 2.0 tools, have a positive effect on students' science lesson attitudes and academic achievement.
Effective and efficient time management is an area of management that is of great importance for teachers in the education process. In this respect, it can be said that teacher candidates should have sufficient skills in effective and efficient time management. In particular, this competence should be managed effectively and efficiently by science teachers, although it is important to emphasize itself in the context of the science course. The aim of this study is to determine the time management skills of science teacher candidates and to determine the change in skill levels according to the level of class. In line with this aim, a total of 135 science teacher candidates who have been studying at a State University in Istanbul in 2018-2019 academic year were selected through objective sampling. The data obtained by using Time Management scale as the data collection tool were analyzed by SPSS statistical program. The mean, standard deviation and one-way variance analyses were used in the analysis of the data and the results were evaluated. It was determined that there was no significant difference between time management skills and classroom level of science teacher candidates and time management skills were “high”.
