Background and Aim: Mothers play a vital role in providing antibiotics to their children since they are too often affected with infections. Hence, the purpose of this study to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice towards antibiotic use of children in Chennai among mothers. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted among mothers of 250 participants. A questionnaire based online survey was conducted and distributed through the survey planet. The data were collected and tabulated in Microsoft Excel sheets which were transferred to SPSS Version 20 for statistical analysis. Chi square test was performed to check for association between variables. Results: About 71.3% of the mothers are not aware that antibiotic resistance is a worldwide problem and 53.3% are paying attention to the expiry date of antibiotics and also 59.3% of the respondents give higher doses of antibiotics to their child than what doctor’s prescribed. 44% of them are providing antibiotics prescribed by local pharmacists without any doctor's prescription. A highly significant association was seen in mothers with monthly income of <30000 rupees do not prefer expensive antibiotics compared to monthly income of >30000 rupees (Chi square test; p<0.001, statistically significant). Conclusion: The study concluded that the mother’s limited knowledge about antibiotics. Hence it is important to facilitate multilevel parent’s education programs regarding antibiotic usage and create awareness about the complications of misconceptions of antibiotics.
Fear or anxiety towards dental procedures can discourage patients from getting dental treatment done. The management of anxious patients undergoing dental treatment is still a challenge in clinical practices. The increased use of sedative and hypnotics in dental practices appears to indicate that the assessment of dental student’s awareness of it, is essential. This survey is carried out to determine the awareness of sedatives and hypnotics used in dental practices among dental students. A questionnaire-based survey study was conducted among 100 undergraduate students at Saveetha Dental College and hospital. The study revealed 94% of the students are aware of the commonly used sedatives and hypnotics in dental practices.
Aim: This in vitro study was to compare the fracture resistance and cyclic fatigue resistance of hand-layered zirconia crowns and computer-aided design (CAD)-on crowns (lithium disilicate with zirconium oxide). Settings and Design: Comparative - Invitro study design. Materials and Methods: All ceramic crown preparation was done on a mandibular molar ivorine tooth, impression made, and duplicated. Twenty hand-layered zirconia crowns and twenty CAD-on crowns were fabricated using CAD/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique. All crowns were cemented to their respective dies using resin cement for evaluating fracture resistance and cyclic fatigue resistance using universal testing machine. Statistical Analysis Used: Independent samples t-test, Mann–Whitney U-test, and Shapiro–Wilk test were used. Results: The mean fracture resistance of CAD-on crowns (2660.50 ± 501.303 N) was significantly more than that of hand-layered zirconia crowns (1963.60 ± 452.895 N) (independent samples t-test, P < 0.023). Cyclic fatigue resistance test results showed that the mean number of cycles before failure for hand-layered zirconia crowns was 175,297 and for CAD-on crowns was 212,097 (Mann–Whitney U-test, P < 0.012). Conclusion: CAD-on crowns were found to have significantly higher fracture resistance and cyclic fatigue resistance properties than hand-layered zirconia crowns.
Background: Plaque is the main factor responsible for dental diseases such as dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. Dentists play a vital role in the maintenance of oral hygiene and prescribing mouthwash of plaque control agents is of greater value. This study carried out the awareness of herbal mouthwash among dental students and knows about the herbal mouthwash in detail Aim: The aim of the study is to assess the awareness of herbal mouthwash among Dental students. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted by assessing responses to 10 selected questions related to herbal mouthwash through a survey planet among 100 dental students. The results were studied and analyzed. Results: In this present survey, Awareness of dental students related to herbal mouth wash, only 67% answered only peppermint oil is used in herbal mouth wash. While 9% said it has only cinnamon oil and 3% of them said it has lavender oil and 21% answered it has all of the essential oil mentioned. About 8% of the students said herbal mouthwash only has antibacterial effects. While 12% answered for antimicrobial effect, 6% answered for anti-inflammatory effect and the rest of 24% of the students said it has an antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory effect. Conclusion: Awareness on herbal mouthwash for general oral health among dental students is still below the satisfactory level. Awareness of the herbal mouthwash for maintaining good oral hygiene needs to be enhanced among dental students.
The antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer properties of ivermectin make it a wonder drug with a wide range of possible applications. It works against a variety of microorganisms, including viruses. Ivermectin has a wide range of antiviral effects, according to in vivo research in animal models. Because ivermectin is involved in a range of biological processes, it could be a promising therapeutic candidate for viruses such as COVID-19 and other positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses. The study aims to analyze the awareness about the current status of usage of ivermectin in management of COVID among students studying in a private dental college. A study based on questionnaire was organized among students studying in a private dental college in Tamil Nadu. The subjects were asked a series of structural questions based on the usage of ivermectin in management of COVID. The questionnaire was prepared with 10 questions. 150 individuals completed the questionnaire; all of their answers were tallied in excel and imported into SPSS. For statistical analysis, the Chi-square test was performed. Excel was used to tabulate and enter the data, and the SPSS package software was used to analyze it. The study's threshold for statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. From this study, we found that the students had limited knowledge about the usage of ivermectin for management of COVID. More studies should be conducted to widen the knowledge among the students about the current affairs of the world.
