The purposes of this study were to (1) identify the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), Technology Integration Self Efficacy (TISE) and Instructional Technology Outcome Expectations (ITOE) of pre-service physical education teachers, (2) examine the relationships among TPACK, TISE and ITOE, and lastly (3) examine the differences between pre-service physical education teachers who perceived and who did not perceive technology integration by their university instructors on TPACK, TISE, and ITOE scores. Findings indicate that while TPACK, TISE and ITOE perceptions of pre-service physical education teachers were at satisfactory levels, university instructors were not good role models in the use of technology in their classrooms. Pre-service teachers reported that integration of physical education and sport-related emerging technologies were almost non-existent in the teaching practices within the university setting. TPACK, TISE, and ITOE were moderately related with each other (p<0.05). Pre-service teachers' self-perceptions of TPACK, TISE, and ITOE were positively influenced by their perception of university instructors' technology integration into teaching in university courses (p<0.05). Providing professional development programs for the teacher education program instructors, both in technology integration in teaching and in emerging physical education and sportsrelated technologies, is recommended.
Student-Athletes are experiencing lots of challenges both in sports and education environments. Problems such as identity crisis, which is brought by the struggle to maintain two careers at the same time, force student-athletes to choose one career path or the other. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to reveal the problems and the difficulties experienced by student-athletes in university. A case study was selected as a research design in this study. A total of nine student-athletes (One Football, one Wrestling, two Basketball, four Volleyball, and one Marathon Athletes) was the participants of this study from Giresun University, Turkey. Focus group interviews and reflection notes were done for the data collection. Thematic Content Analysis was used for the data analysis. Three main topics emerged as school-sports club conflicts, stakeholders' expectations and financial anxiety of student-athletes. The absenteeism problem of the student-athletes was seen as the main problem and since the location of the club that students transferred may be changed every year, the students have difficulties to go to the university regularly. Student-athletes are granted permission to go to universities only in the exam weeks by the clubs. Providing technology-integrated instructional designs according to the needs of student-athletes while protecting the level and the quality of instruction and educational gains, with developing new education policies for absenteeism were recommended.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the restructuring process of a university health-related physical activity course with technology and its impact on teaching & learning practices. Using a design-based research approach, data were collected in five semesters by applying the technology integration strategies iteratively. Beginning with needs assessment, the longitudinal study continued with the first and second pilot, and the process ended with improvements in design and implementation phases. Data were collected through class observations, field notes, and interviews with the students and the instructor. Thematic content analyses were carried out with Nvivo software. Data and researcher triangulation were done for reliability and validity. Findings indicated that technology enhancement would contribute to the quality of health-related physical activity courses and the impact of technology integration was documented in detail. Implications and recommendations were given to stakeholders of the education environment; researchers, practitioners, administrators, technology coaches, and policymakers.
