Abstract-This paper focuses on the shimmy vibrations of wheeled casters. First, a new test caster is developed to freely change its mechanical properties. The accelerations of the caster are carefully measured by changing both the running velocity and the mechanical properties. Next, the running model of the caster is formulated on a horizontal plane, and the computer simulations are conducted based on the model. Then the acceleration data of the developed test caster are compared to those of the modeled caster in the computer, and it is confirmed that the simulation results have good agreements with the experimental results. Finally, some differences are discussed between the actual and computational data.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
