The paper is devoted to the current process of implementation of the new area of Informatics, which replaced the educational area of Information and Communication Technologies in the Framework Educational Programme of Basic Education in the Czech Republic, in primary education. The paper shows the possibilities, but also the limitations that this new area brings to the educational process in primary education. It shows the possible progress in the competences that pupils are expected to achieve and also tries to show the answers to the question of the readiness of current teachers in primary education for this new concept.
