In vivo bound epidermal intercellular immune complexes arranged in a pemphigus-like pattern have been evidenced in a case of bullous pemphigoid by a new immunohistological and immunoelectron-microscopic technique for the detection of immunoglobulins. Immunoelectron microscopy with peroxidase-labeled protein A has been performed to demonstrate these immune complexes at an ultrastructural level and to compare them with ‘classical’ pemphigus antibodies revealed by the same technique. Morphological differences could not be demonstrated by this technique.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
