This study aims to analyse the thoughts of Calvin E. Shenk, a Christian missiologist, who criticized the concept of tripolar typology in the reality of religious pluralism, which was seen as reducing Christian faith. Calvin E. Shenk offers the idea of authentic dialogue, dialogue is as a form of witness of faith. However, Shenk's thoughts cannot simply be applied in the reality of encounters between Muslims and Christians in Maluku, which only emerged from the religious conflict of in 1999-2004. Both the analysis of Shenk's thoughts and the analysis of the context of religious presentation in Maluku, uses the approach of literature study in qualitative research methods. Finally, this study offers a dialogue paradigm in the context of interfaith relations in Maluku that embraces the uniqueness of each religion, including the praxis of the witness of faith, but does not neglect an important dimension that all religions need each other, and that is the symbiosis of religion.
Departed from his criticism of rigid mission practice and egocentric western philosophical hermeneutics, Sundermeier offers another point of view that mission should be oriented towards the process of interpretation and communication. Sundermeier came up with the idea of “hermeneutic of difference”, an intercultural hermeneutic approach that seeks to understand other cultures without appropriating them. Thereafter, Sundermeier arrived at konvivenz, a multicultural community that can share lives, have a good cultural understanding, and respect different aspects of each culture. According to Sundermeier, konvivenz can be a substructure for the relevant mission in the intercultural context. But, konvivenz seemed stuck on interpersonal relationships and overlooked the economic and political status gap that often makes equal intercultural relations impossible. Inter-cultural hermeneutic needs to consider the dimensions of emancipation in every cultural engagement.
Musik gereja dalam agama Kristen adalah salah satu perangkat yang digunakan untuk menginternalisasikan nilai-nilai kepada umat. Akan tetapi, nilai yang diwariskan dalam musik cenderung diarahkan kepada relasi manusia dengan Tuhan (penyembahan), sehingga keberpihakan kepada isu sosial seperti keberadaan para penyandang disabilitas tidak mendapat tempat. Hal ini berbeda produk budaya populer, seperti musik pop yang giat menunjukan keberpihakannya kepada para penyandang disabilitas, semisal lagu Flykarya Avril Lavine. Makalah bertujuan untuk memperlihatkan keberpihakan musik pop kepada para penyandang disabilitas, sehingga komunitas religius seperti gereja dapat belajar untuk menjadi komunitas yang berpihak kepada penyandang disabilitas.
The existence of indigenous religions in Indonesia has always been overshadowed by a history of discrimination from state-recognized religions. One of the main causes is the government's use of categorization that is influenced by the world religions paradigm. As a result, the government does not recognize indigenous religion as a religion and promotes a categorization of it that tends to be negative. In the Christian discourse of theology of religions, the models of exclusivism, inclusivism, pluralism, and even particularism are trapped in a similar religious categorization. On the one hand, the models of theology of religions are open to dialogue with world religions. On the other hand, indigenous religion is not considered a dialogue partner. This article argues that linguistic hospitality can be an inspiration for interreligious dialogue, allowing Christianity to become more open to indigenous religions. Emphasizing a hermeneutic of openness allows indigenous religions to show their otherness without being limited by assumptions of Christian theology.
