In this paper, a control method called radial-orbital decomposition (ROD) control is proposed for controlling the voltage of electric springs (ES). The proposed control method decomposed the ES voltage into two components. The radial component can be used in grid voltage regulation in the future smart grid while the orbital component can be used to improve the power factor of the non-critical load that is connected in series with the ES. As a result, the grid voltage regulation and the power factor improvement can be done independently and simultaneously. A two-kilowatts laboratory-scale experiment was done to verified the proposed control method.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
