In the paper industry, measurement of fiber properties in paper pulp is important for improving the process and producing paper more economically. Developments in imaging technology and image analysis tools have enabled paper industries to have new and improved fiber measurement. This paper discusses a method for analyzing paper pulp fiber characteristics by using image processing technology so that in future this can be used for developing a cost effective online pulp fibre quality analyzer. Image enhancement, segmentation, thinning, and skeletonizing are the important algorithms used in this method.
