This study describes the experiences of 206 agencybased field instructors for MSW students in New York City, in response to September 11, 2001. As part of a larger multisite needs assessment of social workers in the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, this study focuses on the field instructors' initial awareness, personal and professional needs, and fieldwork related disaster impacts. Data were obtained from quantitative and qualitative responses to questionnaire items. Results showed field instructors were weary, but sensitive to student and client needs. Integrated crisis response plans that link school, field instructors, and students are needed.
