This article aims at sharing information on how pictionary game is used to increase the learners’ vacabulary mastery in the process of teaching and learning. It is clear that vocabulary is one of components of English language. When the learners are reading, they need to master vocabulary related to certain topic. Therefore vocabulary is important thing in learning English. However, mastering English vocabularies is not easy. English is foreign language in which learning English is often considered to be difficult to comprehend. This problem can be seen from the unsatisfactory result when learning English. The learning processs commonly used in the classroom just puts the teacher as a center of learning. It means that the teacher always dominates him/herself to teach, not to focus on how the learners learn effectively. This makes the learners passive and less interested in following the course of learning. In fact the learners’ interest is the most important factor in the study. Interest can be developed if the learning process run with fun, vary, and conducive athmosphere. There are many factors that can support the existance of an increase in the study, i.e. teachers, learners, materials, media, methods, and other learning sources. One factor that can help the learners learn vocabulary is the use of pictionary game. In this study, pictionary game is a classic game of drawing and guessing pictures. Pictionary game can also increase the imagination of learners, where learners are asked to draw according to the word given by the teachers. Things that are needed to play pictionary game are a list or card of vocabulary items, whiteboard, calkboard, or smart board and markers. Pictionary game will help learners to get involved in classroom activities. Other advantages of using pictionary game can be concluded that it provides fun language practice in the various language skills.
The research aims at providing students with some tasks for motivating students to engage in a range of digital story telling activities on YouTube. The tasks are designed to explore and practice the skills in completing the tasks given at Speaking 3 subject. The tasks are about digital story telling which means that the story telling was created through media that was YouTube as tool for submitting the tasks. The stories were built in or taken from internet with some titles were Cinderella, Malin Kundang, and Rapunzel, the choice of the titles based on students’ proposal when discussing together. The subjects were 23 students of English Department of STKIP Setia Budhi Rangkasbitung who took Speaking subject. The Result were all students succeed in creating the content on YouTube about story telling. Each of story has its own value or message that could be adopted to students’ life. The Finding of the research were students have good motivation in completing the digital story telling in term of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation such as challenging, curious, responsible, good grade, satisfy, parents, friends, environment and it was founded on interview session. As a lecturer, if we want to give good motivation to students in learning, we must find out the appropriate tasks for students in order they complete the task with their best.
Recount text is one of the texts in writing which must be taught and stated in Junior High School curriculum. Some students felt that reading text is boring because the students tend to be very lazy to read the text, so that they are not interested in English lessons. The researchers used group investigation technique as one of alternatives in teaching and learning to develop the material and make students more active and interested in class. The objective of this research is to find out whether teaching using group investigation technique is able to develop the students’ reading in recount text at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang. The methodology of this research was a quantitative research method by using true experimental design. The study was carried out into two classes, Class VIII E as experimental class, and Class VIII C as control class. The results of the study showed that group investigation was able to develop students’ reading comprehension in recount text. Mean of posttest score of the experimental class (67.31) was higher than the control class (64.18). Based on the statistical analysis using t-test analysis, it showed the value of tcount ≥ ttable = 49.12 ≥ 1.99. It means that (Ha) was accepted and the (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that group investigation is able to develop students’ reading comprehension in recount text at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang.
The aim to be reached in writing this article is to inform the readers on how SPADA as one of instructional media based technologies today is effective to increase the quality of the learners in their self-regulated learning. In recent years, technology has increasingly developed with its widespread use in the economy, tourism and even education in the world. The existance of technology-based media in teaching and learning activities is needed to accompany the increasingly modern era of globalization. One of the technology-based media used in education is e-learning media. E-learning is a type of teaching and learning that allows the delivery of teaching materials to learners using the internet, intranet or other computer network media (Hartley, 2001). With this technology-based media, teaching and learning activities that previously only took place on campus or school, can be conducted anywhere and anytime, not limited by space and time. One of the e-learning media on campus is SPADA (Online Learning System). This system is developed to answer some of the challenges of higher education and organize learning without limits. The use of the SPADA website as a utilization of learners' self integration means how the use of SPADA can facilitate learners to practice their self-regulated learning. It means that by using SPADA, the learners are expected to increase their learning activities autonomously. By doing so, the lecturers/teachers only need to give their learners the lesson materials and perhaps some assignments then the rest of learning process will be left entirely to the learners, giving them freedom to pick their own learning pace. In this case, SPADA as one of instructional media based technologies is effective to improve the quality of the learners’ self-regulated learning.
The purpose of this study was to determine the impact on applying the Numbered Head Together (NHT) strategy on eighth-grade students' reading comprehension of recount material at SMPN 10 Kota Serang. For the study, the researchers conducted quantitative research with a true experimental design. The participants in this study were eighth grade students of SMPN 10 Kota Serang. Cluster random sampling was used to choose the sample for this study. There were 30 students in each of the two classes participated in this study: VIII B as the experimental class and VIII G as the control class. The experimental class was instructed using the NHT strategy, while the control group was instructed using the lecturing technique. The data were gathered by pre- and post-tests, and the hypothesis was tested by using the t-test procedure. The t-test calculation revealed that t-count (9.22) was higher than t-table (2.00) with a significance of 0.05. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) has been accepted. It can be determined that applying the NHT strategy had a substantial impact on students' reading comprehension of recount text in eighth grade at SMPN 10 Kota Serang.
