Novel sulfur (S) anchoring materials and the corresponding mechanisms for suppressing capacity fading are urgently needed to advance the performance of Li/S batteries. Here, we designed and synthesized a graphene-like oxygenated carbon nitride (OCN) host material that contains tens of micrometer scaled two-dimensional (2D) rippled sheets, micromesopores, and oxygen heteroatoms. N content can reach as high as 20.49 wt %. A sustainable approach of one-step self-supporting solid-state pyrolysis (OSSP) was developed for the low-cost and large-scale production of OCN. The urea in solid sources not only provides self-supporting atmospheres but also produces graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) working as 2D layered templates. The S/OCN cathode can deliver a high specific capacity of 1407.6 mA h g(-1) at C/20 rate with 84% S utilization and retain improved reversible capacity during long-term cycles at high current density. The increasing micropores, graphitic N, ether, and carboxylic O at the large sized OCN sheet favor S utilization and trapping for polysulfides.
In the last few years, air‐stable organic radicals and radical polymers have attracted tremendous attention due to their outstanding performance in flexible electronic devices, including transistors, batteries, light‐emitting diodes, thermoelectric and photothermal conversion devices, and among many others. The main issue of radicals from laboratory studies to real‐world applications is that the number of known air‐stable radicals is very limited, and the radicals that have been used as materials are even less. Here, the known and newly developed air‐stable organic radicals are summarized, generalizing the way of observing air‐stable radicals. The special electric and photophysical properties of organic radicals and radical polymers are interpreted, which give radicals a wide scope for various of potential applications. Finally, the exciting applications of radicals that have been achieved in flexible electronic devices are summarized. The aim herein is to highlight the recent achievements in radicals in chemistry, materials science, and flexible electronics, and further bridge the gap between these three disciplines.
Reduction of 2-(BMes2)pyrene (B1) and 2,7-bis(BMes2)pyrene (B2) gives rise to anions with extensive delocalization over the pyrenylene bridge and between the boron centers at the 2- and 2,7-positions, the typically unconjugated sites in the pyrene framework. One-electron reduction of B2 gives a radical anion with a centrosymmetric semiquinoidal structure, while two-electron reduction produces a quinoidal singlet dianion with biradicaloid character and a relatively large S0-T1 gap. These results have been confirmed by cyclic voltammetry, X-ray crystallography, DFT/CASSCF calculations, NMR, EPR, and UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
